Report: Lois Lerner's Hard Drive Has Been "Thrown Away"
Townhall.com ^ | 6/19/2014 | Katie Pavlich

According to a report published late last night in POLITICO, the hard drive belonging to Lois Lerner where the IRS claims her emails to outside agencies and groups like the White House, Department of Justice, FEC, Democrat members of Congress, etc. were stored has been...destroyed.

Ex-IRS official Lois Lerner’s crashed hard drive has been recycled, making it likely the lost emails of the lightening rod in the tea party targeting controversy will never be found, according to multiple sources.

“We’ve been informed that the hard drive has been thrown away,” Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, said in a brief hallway interview.

So now the IRS wants us to believe Lerner's emails were only stored on her personal hard drive? And not on a backup server somewhere? Come on. Further, why is it that Lerner has emails to employees in the IRS, but her hard drive just happened to "crash" between January 2009-April 2011 and only on the emails to outside sources?

Chairman of the House Oversight Committee Darrell Issa didn't buy the excuse when the "lost" emails were announced late last week. Now he's implying the emails were deliberately made to disappear, which is a violation of federal law.

"If the IRS truly got rid of evidence in a way that violated the Federal Records Act and ensured the FBI never got a crack at recovering files from an official claiming a Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination, this is proof their whole line about 'losing' e-mails in the targeting scandal was just one more attempted deception," Issa said in a statement to Fox News. "Official records, like the e-mails of a prominent official, don't just disappear without a trace unless that was the intention."

Things just got a lot more criminal.

The latest news suggests such professionals may never get the chance to try again — and the IRS has even said its criminal investigators who specialize in rebuilding hard drives to recover hidden information from criminals were unable to restore the data back in 2011.

Of course, criminals aren’t stupid.

The email server has the email. It can be retrieved unless it was purposefully searched for her emails and they were removed from it.

Yup. Gone hard drive is a diversion, and a stupid one at that - email servers keep emails for years......

Why aren’t the IT experts screaming about his bogus rabbit trail?

They are.

Big time.

Document preservation and the critical nature of digital back up is one thing people in Corporate America understand and they are not buying this BS.

Whatever was in those emails was so damaging that people are willing to go to jail for document destruction and obstruction of justice

So? What about the Exchange server? Nightly local backups? Offsite tape backups? DR backups?

It was ruled by the Supreme Court in Anderson v. Dunn the Congress has the power to have someone arrested and imprisoned for Contempt of Congress. They can do this themselves. The DOJ has nothing to do with it. There even used to be a jail cell in the Capitol Building were those convicted served out their sentence.

Congress can do this but they REFUSE to do their duty.

The hard drive is irrelevant. The server backups should have everything necessary, or the IT guys have committed a federal felony.

True Dat. In fact, if this had occurred during a Bush administration, Hillary surely would have chimed in with ....

I think that the reports that you provide to us really require the willing suspension of disbelief.

And if all that fails, the NSA probably has them anyway.

My IT guy has finally convinced me to switch away from AOL. I was one of their first 10K users. My new email thingie is happily transferring my years of AOL emails which I have to keep because of what I do for a living to my new email. It will take another day or two. It is all taking place up on some cloud. My hard drive has nothing to do with it. I know this because I can watch it from more than one computer. I also just signed up for Dropbox. Pretty soon I will have nothing of any importance on either my HD or my server. Since my IT guy and my son who is a security IT guy both say this is the way to go, I’m happy. If it all crashes and burns I do have a back up on my desk. But if it all crashes and burns we’re probably all doomed anyway.

If his co-conspirators thought destroying the IRS hard drive, and the potent information on it, would protect Obama, it won’t. If anything, it is ample evidence that there is something to hide......and that "something" has to be pretty serious.

Judge Napolitano summed it up best----"NSA"---the see-all, know-all federal agency listening-in and recording 24/7.

Obama's gonna find out real soon: "Karma really is a *itch."

They're probably offsite at a secure location, currently being stored in a box along with a bunch of hard drive magnets.

Put her in prison and throw away the key, until she tells all. Then leave her in prison.

A good bit flipper could rebuild the mailbox. Most of the time whe email is “deleted” the only thing that happens is that pointers to the data are changed. The data is still there just gotta look hard enough.

It’s ironic that a while back they were proposing that people should libel for unpaid taxes of their parents/grandparents, based on old, archived, tax records, but now they conveniently lose incriminating evidence.

It’s time for a flat tax in a system that canno longer be used to control and intimidate citizens.
