It existed in a primitive form in the 70's when I worked on communications programming in Cheyenne Mountain.

Yes, I grudgingly must admit, Al Gore has a point - but he is still an idiot.

This will undoubtedly affect a lot of pending Criminal and Civil cases for tax evasion and underreporting of income, etc.

All a bright defense attorney has to do is to make an allegation that exculpatory evidence was included in some inter office e-mails and issue a subpoena for e-mails between Lois Lerner (or any of the other conspirators whose hard drives have conveniently disappeared) and any other IRS employee or investigator regarding their client and when it comes back that the IRS destroyed that alleged evidence, the case may have to be dismissed.

They can’t turn around and say that there never was any such communication, because they can’t find the documents to prove it and instead of just saying they can’t find something, they will have to admit that if there was such exculpatory evidence, that it has been destroyed.

Let the depositions begin.

This perfectly illustrates how out of control the shadow government bureaucracy is. The arrogance and criminality are astounding. People need to go to jail.

There are no liberal talking points on this issue. There is no doubt that the IRS is engaged in a Criminal Conspiracy to obstruct justice in a way that makes Watergate look like child's play. The tide may be turning on this one.

Doesn't matter, though. The admin is still giving a big "FU" to everyone who wants to hold them accountable, and public opinion doesn't affect their attitude.

Let the depositions begin.

As you briefly describe, the implications of this are simply massive. The Speaker of the House, the Senate Minority Leader and every GOP member of the House and Senate should appear on the steps of Congress today for a national press conference to decry the lawlessness of this POTUS and his administration ..... oh, wait ....

No doubt we are being gamed. Destruction of evidence and obstruction of justice. This is all too pat to be a simple blunder.

Emails don't reside on a local hard drive. They reside on a server that should get backed up on a daily basis.

Why should Democrats fear any consequences? Nothing ever happens to them. In the end they know they will walk and be taken care of by their masters.

Well, the IRS may claim that they are unable to retrieve those emails, however Lerner was corresponding with the FBI, the White House and members of Congress as well. Those emails exist elsewhere. Plus there’s that little matter of the IRS having released 1.1 million confidential taxpayer records to give the FBI ammunition with which to investigate and prosecute conservatives, which is a felony.
It might be time to review the 2nd article of impeachment from 1974 against Nixon, particularly:
Article 2
Using the powers of the office of President of the United States, Richard M. Nixon, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in disregard of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has repeatedly engaged in conduct violating the constitutional rights of citizens, impairing the due and proper administration of justice and the conduct of lawful inquiries, or contravening the laws governing agencies of the executive branch and the purposed of these agencies.
This conduct has included one or more of the following:
He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavoured to obtain from the Internal Revenue Service, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, confidential information contained in income tax returns for purposed not authorized by law, and to cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be intitiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.
He misused the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service, and other executive personnel, in violation or disregard of the constitutional rights of citizens, by directing or authorizing such agencies or personnel to conduct or continue electronic surveillance or other investigations for purposes unrelated to national security, the enforcement of laws, or any other lawful function of his office; he did direct, authorize, or permit the use of information obtained thereby for purposes unrelated to national security, the enforcement of laws, or any other lawful function of his office; and he did direct the concealment of certain records made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of electronic surveillance.

Find who the emails went to or were from the emails should still be in those other places.

Difficult to do when the Attorney General is an agent for the other side.

This is like the guy burning down his house to hide the evidence. And leaving the weapons in his car. The evidence is on the servers, backups, logs, etc.

Dumb as they come.

I just looked up the “consequences” that Sandy Berger had for stealing incriminating documents from the national archives.

Again, he knew that the information he was destroying had far greater consequences than he would receive for destroying it.

$50,000 fine, community service and probation.

You know for a fact that he got 10 or 100 times that in compensation for destroying evidence linking Bill Clinton’s malfeasance to 9/11.

Everyone she has in her contacts should turn over their emails to and from her. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

No one believes them on Politico. Nearly 10,000 comments as of now.

Even self-loathing, brain-dead, leftoid Obama worshipers hate the IRS.
