Presbyterian assembly: Gay marriage is Christian

DETROIT — The top legislative body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has taken major steps toward recognizing gay marriage.

The General Assembly voted Thursday in favor of redefining Christian marriage in the church constitution as the union of "two people," not just "a man and a woman." The redefinition will take effect only if most of the 172 regional Presbyteries approve it in voting over the next year.

>> You need to keep up with the times. Campus Crusade is no more. It's now the hip, cool CRU <<

Rather bizarre that they get the initials "CRU" out of the words "Campus Crusade for Christ". Seems to me they should abbreviate it as "CCC"

Ironic. "Presbyterian", "Lutherans", "Methodists"... you just "lumped them all together" right before you lectured others not to do so.

As someone else noted on this thread, there many different kinds of "Presbyterians", with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) being totally separate from the Presbyterian Church USA. At last count there are at least four or five different types of Lutheran denominations in the United States, and despite them all claiming to be the true successor of Martin Luther's teachings, they all have vastly different beliefs.

Well Jesus didn’t say anything about incest, pedophilia, bestiality or necrophilia, so they must be OK, right? It’s a race to the bottom for some denominations to see which one first hits on this argument.

They will always be Campus Crusade to me, no matter what they change the name to. I was mostly associated with the Navigators, much better training. The men who have most inspired me, Dawson Trotman, Bill Bright, Chuck Smith and Charles Stanley. Godly men, all of them.

If you want to know how to tell if a church (denomination) is about to go off the rails, it all starts with denying that Jews are God’s chosen people.

Once you root them out, you are free to define Christianity any way you like.

Anti-semitism is the mark of not being able to read your bible.

No it doesn't. Many of the so called mainline protestant denominations (Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist) have been apostate for years

And if you ask any one of them they will tell you with a straight face and a sincere heart that they are in Sola Scriptural.

Time to face the facts, SS is a man made lie.

Bill Bright,

PCUSA before it became totally apostate.

I could believe it. I never even knew if Dawson Trotman had any denominational background. I do not think it really concerned him much, though Navs were told it was a good idea to attend a local Bible believing church, if there were any. I think Chuck Smith had a Four Square background. I think something that has grown as big as Calvary Chapel, has had its problems. I sometimes went to the one in Fairfield, CA, I thought it was pretty good, though each individual chapel stands or falls on its own. Stanley's preaching is always EXTREMELY humbling.

I lost a lot of respect for Stanley for the way that he handled the divorce. He should have done what he had vowed to do - step down from the pulpit if he got divorced. If not permanently, at least for a couple of years.

That is not a very smart statement but you know that. Some people will be critical of Protestants on any thread.

They are, sort of. They use the bible as their sole source of authority. But they ignore any section of it that they don't like.

Then they are no Sola Scripturists (Yeah I made that word up, but it fits). They are using their own authority to decide what is right and wrong.

If it is one he/she is his/ her own pope. If it is two or more they are their own magisterium. How is this the slightest bit different than what the protestants bang the Catholics heads over?

It isn't not in the least.

redefining Christian marriage in the church constitution as the union of “two people,” not just “a man and a woman.”

Why only two people?
What ages? 30 and 14?
Why just people ? Man and a sheep? Women and a dog? If you as a supposed Christian Church can decide that you can change on God’s definition of marriage why stop where you did? Go whole hog.......
