Dinesh D'Souza's America: Review

...America is partly a imagining of a world without America, but more powerfully it is a virtual courtroom drama as the filmmakers lay out, then carefully refute the Lefts' moral indictments of America: to wit: that America stole the land from Native Americans and Mexico and stole the labor of slaves and the resources from the third world to build its remarkable wealth.

Part of the strength of the film is that it uses interviews with leading intellectuals on the Left, including Noam Chomsky, Ward Churchill, Michael Eric Dyson and Alan Dershowitz. It also featured a good deal of archival video of the malevolently charismatic (and incredibly Machiavellian) Saul Alinsky and some fan-boy gushing over Howard Zinn by Woody Harrelson and...

I found the website. It comes out on July 2. Theaters should be posted then, or I guess, the day before?

Hope that helps, I just googled America Movie.

Lions gate is interesting: 10 years ago the gears coming up on screen signaled a totally b-grade movie, but they steadily improved their film selection and production and to me, now, the gears=quality.

On the left. A leading intellectual on the left.

You know, a moron.

I just saw it. This movie is a refreshing reprieve from the depressing Obamanation. The speech Bono gives about America near the end is itself worth the price of admission alone. (Who would have thought?). Normally I have problems with different versions of the Star Spangled Banner but the version they play during the credits will keep you in your seat until it’s done playing.

You are obviously too shallow a person to appreciate Woody Harrelson's intelligent and insightful musings.

I can't wait for the usual incisive reviews by freepers who will see the film over the long holiday weekend.

I think you spoke for me! We sat to the very end of the credits and the storm tossed version of the Star Spangled Banner was very good!

I learned several things I had never explored. Winning a war and giving back 1/2 of the land was a new concept to me!

Statistics about slaves and white forced labor was also presented in a comparison I had never considered.

It made me think. Can you ask for more?

bleeping bias at Movies.com !!!

America is playing near me (I will see it this evening), and it opened at #12 in this weekend’s box office, but the Movies.com site lists FIFTY “movies near you” (based upon my zip code in Philly area) without even showing that America is available in this area.

i.e., they are doing all they can to ignore it while they promote numerous less popular films, all of which are meaningless pap.

Scumbags!!

Slave Labor:

It's fairly obvious that its major economic effect was to help the South build an unsustainable dead-end economy and it's also obvious that Slavery's other major effect was the development of a detrimental culture that many of the descendants of former slaves have been trained to accept.
