Authorities Search for 2 Women Who Allegedly Beat Man to Death at Metro Train Station

Homicide detectives were investigating Sunday the death of a 65-year-old man who was beaten by two unidentified women at a Willowbrook Metro train station.

L.A. resident John Whitmore was waiting for a train at the Metro-Blue Line near Imperial Highway and South Wilmington Avenue (map) on Friday, June 13 when two black women kicked Whitmore and hit him with their hands until he collapsed, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Back in the 50s I used to ride the Pacific Electric Red Car from Long Beach to Los Angeles. I was 10 or so and I rode it alone. One of the stops was Willowbrook. It was a black neighborhood then and I imagine it still is. Big difference is that a white kid could ride through Watts and Willowbrook with no fear. Another difference was that while Watts was poor, it was still well kept.
