Conservatives can be forgiven for believing the political winds are at their back. Obama is flirting with historically low approval ratings as much of the public simply tunes him out. Democrat-backed policies have failed to lift the economy and public anxiety about the limits of government activism grows. Conservative challengers will do well enough this primary season to argue that the "tea party" is alive and well. Behind the scenes, though, the left is retooling and the conservative movement seems unequal to the challenge.
The upcoming edition of The Nation, the long-time house-organ of the institutional left, features a "symposium" with insights from leading organizers on ways to rebuild a progressive, populist political movement. The cornerstone of this effort is an astute, yet arguable, observation about the modern political landscape.
The sad irony of American politics is that the right is far weaker than it appears and the left far stronger than it asserts.
There is some truth in this, but not for the reasons the author, Peter Borosage, probably imagines. The American right is far weaker than it ought to be, given Americans' views on most issues. According to exit polls, a majority of voters in an election in which Barack Obama won a second term also believed that government was "doing too much." Just about one-in-four voters who voted in 2012 described themselves as "liberal."(continued)

Incredibly high US tax policy, especially corporate taxation, and high regulatory costs are what sends jobs out of our country. Implement a strict E-verify with strict noncompliance punishment, implement a flat tax or a fair tax, cut regulatory fluff, and implement a sane energy policy and jobs would flood back into this country.
All politics is local, especially in off year elections. The local in most locals the Democrat Party is in tatters.
A worthless excuse.
The right isn't strong at all, I will repeat what I have said before. There has never been a more ineffective, and cowardly people in all of human history than the modern conservative.
The media is on board with the push.
Speak for yourself
Obama and the media are owned by the same Bolshevik cabal; for all intents and purposes, we haven’t had a “media” here since at least the Clintons...
It’s losing a sense of personal association with the Lord that has worked this mischief, I believe. I’d agree it’s real. Things in the world have turned into idols that now war for the “conservative’s” loyalty.
One perverse such idol, I aver, is the search for the perfect politician. A perfect politician should not be necessary; only one who is conscientious enough to listen.
Right now, the Chinese unemployment rate is I believe something like 4.3 percent.
China is not in trouble.
We are in trouble. Yet we do nothing, to actually fix the problems.
Neither party does anything, to help our very own nation.
I have been to China. Worked there. I am not anti-Chinese, except to the point that we cannot give up America.
It seems we are currently, doing exactly that. Both parties, seem to be simply, giving up America. We sell our own stocks, but only accept in return buying a minority interest in China (leaving majority interest, in Chinese hands) In company after company. We sell our own property, but only accept in return — well there is no American ownership of Chinese property. In every way, we accept less, in return, for what we offer to China.
I really don’t get it. We cannot just sell out our very own nation.
We need to stand up for ourselves.
America first, for a change.
There’s one of those maps around somewhere which shows the incestuous relationships between the WH, banks and media.
I look in a direction orthogonal to that: God first.
The more good things the USA produces, the better it will be blessed by heaven. There is no reason to view it as a zero sum game with China, but we can’t expect a society of lazy Americans to prosper.
“Theres one of those maps around somewhere which shows the incestuous relationships between the WH, banks and media.”
The media relationship is easiest to highlight; the Clintons ruled for eight years without a press conference that wasn’t staged/pre-screened. Remember the GW Bush ambushes (asking who the leaders of different countries were)? The Clintons knew they couldn’t face real questions because of BJ’s numerous infidelities, and they basically used the media to their own ends.
Obama’s relationship with them is even more noticeable because he is so incompetent and uneducated he needs a teleprompter to speak to schoolchildren, and literally stops talking when the teleprompter craps out. He has to wait for the white liberals behind the scenes to get his script rolling again, and the media gives him a pass on it because they have the same bosses.
There are a lot of “the right” who agree with many facets of the left,
There is no one on the left who agree with facets of the right
Thus, the divide.
I use quotes above because, IMO, you can’t be on “the right” while believing in liberal causes though many claim to do exactly that.
They never go away. “Progressives” are like Zombies.
The GOP should have their license as a political party revoked for political incompetence.
They aren’t incompetent. Their agenda just isn’t ours.
I saw on Hannity tonight why they prevail. It was a discussion on Islam and while conservatives tried to use an inside voice and logic the Obamabot was screaming and would not shut up for even a minute.
If we let them have the floor, whether it’s a show, media, or townhall then that’s what the people hear.
They do tend to be emotional.
LOL!
The first battle is the first battle. If Republicans don’t win the first battle they will be in worse shape to win the second battle.
Win the first battle. Then regroup, make new plans and fight the next battle. Period.
“They arent incompetent. Their agenda just isnt ours.”
Absolutely correct. I am so weary of hearing about the “spineless incompetent GOP” when the problem is so much worse. The Republican establishment are all in on the looting of America. They are getting their piece of the action, which is why it will take a total overthrow of GOP leadership to ever do anything about Obamacare, the immigration crisis and the ongoing loss of American sovereignty.
Just try to get in the way of Johnny Boehner getting a contribution or political perk and then tell me how “spineless” he is.
