Japan is up in arms about insensitive and sexist remarks made by male members of The Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly (the equivalent of a U.S. State Government Assembly) toward a female representative during her presentation earlier this week. She was speaking on issues of raising children in Japan.
Ayaka Shiomura, a 36-year-old member of the opposition Your Party, called for the Tokyo metropolitan government to support women who need assistance while pregnant or raising children during a June 18 assembly session. She also suggested that the government should help Japanese women who have fertility issues to conceive children.
Japan is wrestling with a declining birth rate and growing elderly population. It has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world.
While she was speaking, men in the section for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) began jeering at her with lines like: “Hey you, should hurry up and get married!” and “Can’t you have babies?”
Shiomura continued to speak even though she had to choke back tears at one point. After the session, Minoru Morozumi, the secretary-general of Your Party’s assembly members, lodged a protest with his LDP counterpart, Osamu Yoshiwara.
Osamu Yoshiwara told the press that he wasn’t in a position to confirm whether or not it was a member of his party who yelled out the comments, but he asked assembly members to behave in a “in a dignified manner.”

in 2000 Keiko Sakurai had estimated the number of ethnic Japanese Muslims in Japan at 63,552, and around 70,000 - 100,000 foreign Muslims residing in the country.
So, at 200,000 Muslims, that’s 0.16% of the population.
To me. Any statistically significant measure of Muslim population in a country, i.e., anything numbering in the 100 of thousands is a real problem. For most countries, approaching 1-2% of the population is a sign of dire degradation.
Believe it or not, I don’t care. It is a pestilence and it only takes one seed.
Japan does not have a problem with 3rd world immigration and muslim minorities. They simply do not allow such people into their country. Western multi-culti elites consider them "xenophobic," but the Japanese are built to last.
Japan's governments may come and go, but as a distinct people, language and culture, they will be around well after the USA has destroyed itself.
Japanese demographics are inverted: more elderly than children. Japanese women have to start producing more Japanese children, or there will be no more Japan.
But it won’t last unless they can solve the birthrate problem. Should it continue, Japan’s economy will be even more unsustainable than it is now and the government will be forced to import labor.
I would not be surprised to see a ‘four child policy’ in the next few years, as well as a ban on abortion and forms of contraception.
Well, on a fundamental level, that IS rather important...

That's the narrative the media and arm-chair analysts love to repeat. There is nothing that makes this statement true. Where is the iron-law of nature that says a population must continually expand? Who will force Japan to import labor?
Japan could do a lot simply by reforming the prefecture system and electoral system that gives several times more votes to farmers than city dwellers. Expand the cities to lower the price of housing so that people can actually afford more than one child.
In that they somewhat resemble Western Males. The wife is suppose to hold a high paying job, have dinner on the table when he gets home, have and raise perfect children with no male assistance, keep the house spotless, throw wonderful parties for her husbands colleagues to advance his career, and of course always be ready to have sex at the drop of a hat.
Oh and she should "take care of her self" which means looking like she just stepped out of the beauty parlor at all times but she should never actually go to the beauty parlor because that would be a waste of money.
I can't understand why women aren't falling over themselves to get that gig.
It is simply this. They will have a shrinking pool of workers and a growing retiree population that has to be supported. Imagine if half of our population aged 12-50 disappeared overnight. The results would be catastrophic and programs for the elderly would go into meltdown mode.
There’s no problem with a population shrinking a little, but at the meteoric rate that the Japanese average is shifting from young to old the situation is economically dangerous. With fewer workers, businesses will be forced to shut down should the government not make new labor available through immigration. Although Japan has a very automated economy compared to other countries, they do still require lots of workers.
If there was no problem with it, they wouldn’t be spending so much time and effort trying to reverse it. Nobody there wants to import workers.
And its very simple - they won't.
You still base your argument on our (false) western, multi-culti, Keynesian suppositions that the welfare state will and must be maintained at all costs, and that business considerations will override all others (or even that Japanese businesses are the same was American businesses). Yes, their politicians do need economic growth, and yes, they do want more population growth, and yes, they may very well face a financial crisis because of it and because of existing massive debts. I don't argue that.
But that in now way means the Japanese will sacrifice their cultural unity and racial homogeneity at the alter of western-liberal economics. They will buckle-down and muddle through.
100 years from now, the Japanese population may indeed only be half its present size. But at the same time, the USA may no longer exist as we know it now. I would bet money though its more likely that the Japanese continue to exist as a unified culture, language and nation as they do now.
You’ll find no disagreement from me that the Japanese are very unlikely to engage in the kind of import system that Europeans have modeled, however look at the system that various Arab countries adopted, taking in workers from the Philippines and South-East Asia for seasonal work during which they are kept in compounds. Importing workers doesn’t necessarily have to be permanent or culture-changing.
They may buckle down and grind through it, but I can guarantee that it will not be easy or popular. As another poster mentioned, Japanese middle aged workers have trouble paying for families as it is. Taking in the elderly is going to be an even tougher trial if old Japanese men and women cannot be paid for.
The best course of action is to accelerate what they are doing, and that is creating optimum conditions for raising children in Japan with incentives for giving birth. My first agenda item would be banning abortion, but one can only hope they do that.
Another concern is military. Countries that are just full of old people are military targets. With Obama at the helm, I really hope they are not relying on us for protection.
I guess we are in agreement then. I too see them steadily abandoning abortion and also also increasing benefits for child-bearing.
Perhaps its possible they may have “camps” for guest workers or severe limitations on them, but rather, I would expect them to expand the economic zone model they use in other countries. Make their goods at Japanese-centered spots in the Philippines, etc...
As for senior services - Japanese will not accept foreign nurses, doctors or senior aide workers. If, as you imply, the japanese do not want foreign workers “out in public” they certainly aren’t going to accept them in their homes or hospitals. Again, they will seek to automate even more, and continue to operate within the confines of accepted norms of Japanese culture rather than do this.
Then liberal elites wonder why the little people don't want to bring children into ‘their’ world. My thoughts? Liberal elites can damn well give birth to their own servants... we're sick of doing for 'em.
