Obama joined the Wrights church to gain black cred with radical blacks, and because its black liberation propaganda jives with his anti-American, socialist agenda. Wright’s church has nothing to do with Christ, Christianity or good will towards men. Obama wouldn’t last five minutes in a real Christian setting.
His Islamic faith runs just about as deep, but it is more in line with his anti-Western thinking. He can at least view Islam as an ally to his cause, which is diminishing the United States and Western civilization.

Not a get out prayer rug and bow down to Mecca five times a day Muslim, not a “devout” Muslim.
But culturally and emotionally, he's a Muslim.

What you're saying is he has certain qualities that atheists (and other people who aren't atheists) have but that aren't essential to being an atheist, and certain qualities that Muslims (as well as other people who aren't Muslim) have but that aren't an essential part of being a Muslim, and that this makes him both an atheist and a Muslim, and you're wondering why people don't understand?
I'd say that he's a functional agnostic. It would be hard to reconcile a 100% belief in Islam with the other parts of his life. Not unless there's some secret room at the White House where he prays 5 times a day.
Yet Islam has some moral prohibitions that Obama doesn't want to follow. Every religion other than atheism has limitations or exclusions on smoking, drinking, fornication, and abortion. Obama does not want to heed those prohibitions or limitations, hence his embracement of secular humanism/ atheism/ agnosticism (which are fundamentally the same in morals, hence it's easiest to call them all atheists).
There are many, many examples which show that atheism is morally bankrupt, and that any morals they exhibit are strictly for pragmatic purposes. Here's one.
He fuses the worst parts of each ideology. "Atheist Muslim" (or the inverse) is the easiest description of his ideology.
No, it was Jeremiah Wright. It's said that Wright was a Muslim at one point (and even that he thinks Obama may still be a Muslim), but he's not Farrakhan.
The bottom line on this is that Obama thinks his academic background gives him the credentials to rule. A lot of people in law schools think that way about themselves. In a Muslim caliphate an entirely different class of people rules.
So I don't think Harvard or U Chicago liberals are going to dedicate their lives to bringing about a world where mullahs and imams who they would consider to be uncouth would rule over professors and college lecturers. Because of his background, Obama might be friendlier to Muslim leaders than other college liberals but does he really want such people to rule in the US?
Lemme take this two steps further:
1) University people like that view politics in terms of minority or victim or disenfranchised groups, and they put Muslims in that category. They don't want everyone to be under Muslim rule. They just think of Muslims (and women and Blacks and gays and other minorities) as part of their coalition.
2) A lot of people are functionally agnostic. I'm not sure that the lines between functional agnostics and atheists and the lukewarm religious are all that firm or clear. How would a 100% atheist Obama differ in practice from an agnostic or a nominally Christian Obama?
I don't know if all religions regulate smoking and drinking (and eating?), but looking at what the Obamas advocate, I'd have to say that they aren't really against government restrictions on eating and smoking (and drinking), whether or not they actually follow those rules themselves.

yeah it seems to be based on fairly shallow understandings of his past. His father divorced his mother just a few years after he was born. So he was gone. His mother was not religious and Barack Obama said he was not raised religious.

Barack’s stepdad was muslim. But that marriage to Dunham didn’t last but a few years either. Obama described his stepfather in his book as following “a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths”. Obama attended Catholic school for much of grade school.
Obama was one screwed up kid surrounded by screwed up people with muslim, secular and marxist influences. Hard to believe that was the background of an American President.

Barack Obama was born a Muslim, Islam is traced through the father.
You seem to be confusing being born into to it with being raised religiously Islamic and brought into Islam.
People can argue how much religious instruction he received in it, or whether he is a true believer today, but they cannot deny that he was born Muslim according to Islam.
Being born into it and leaving it still would make him an apostate according to Islam.
Would you want to explain your being born a Muslim and then denying Islam, to a Sharia court?
