Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on Thursday signed a bill raising the state's $8 per hour minimum wage to $11 per hour by 2017.
The bill increases the minimum wage gradually, to $9 per hour in 2015, $10 in 2016 and $11 in 2017 which would be the highest in the nation.
President Barack Obama praised Massachusetts lawmakers last week for "standing up for working men and women."
Obama previously said he looked forward to Patrick, a fellow Democrat and supporter, signing the bill.
The measure also gradually raises the minimum wage for tipped workers, such as restaurant servers, from $2.63 per hour to $3.75 per hour, a 31 percent increase and the first since 1999.
After Patrick signed the bill on Thursday, praise from supporters of the measure began pouring in. U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass., is a sponsor of a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 by 2015. Kennedy said the Bay State bill goes a long way toward raising the quality of life of ctizens of the Commonwealth.

That’s all Deval? What a racist.
Dont forget this is for the unions. Their contracts are tied to the min wage.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Vermont and New Hampshire thank Patrick for all of the new jobs heading there way!
Let me guess, hasn't worked in years and on welfare but somehow has a cell phone and cable TV.
Exactly. They posted several pictures of SEIU goons protesting. In related news, they union bosses can expect a nice fat raise as they hike the union dues a few more dollars a week.
Why by 2017? Why not now? If its good in 2017, why isn’t it good now? I mean, we’re in a recession. People need that money now so what Patrick should do is raise it to $15 or $20 per hour now and then let it go back to $11 when the recession is over . . . .
IN OTHER NEWS:
MA workers wonder why they are now making $0/hr or only working 10 hours per week.
$11 an hour? That’s almost what an IT tech in India makes!
Expect an influx of immigrants from India looking for a bigger paycheck!
Big whoop. By then inflation will make the 11 dollars spend like the 7.25 today. Liberals are so weird with their victories. Maryland is just as bad. They hoop and holler how wonderful Governor O’Malley is for making minimum wage 10.10 in 2018.....when I hear people saying how wonderful that is....I just laugh at their ignorance. Again the best way to increase minimum wage (if we really must have such a thing) is tie it into the annual Social Security increase or even the military increase......now that would be interesting and worthwhile showing just how ridiculous low the military raises are especially.
ANOTHER jackass who has never run a business.
Fmr pres clinton said at his conference yesterday that higher min wage has never been proven to impact employment. I almost laughed but he was serious. His spin on Germany’s unemployment system was interesting though.
They spread this out over a period of years because they know that it is destructive. If it comes in gradually the damage will be less obvious and more difficult to trace back to this abominable legislation.
Why doesn’t THIS dummy start a business and pay that “living wage”? First, b/c that would mean that she would have to do some WORK! lol Bob
Bad news for sure. There will be another exodus from the MA to NH. We don’t need or want anymore Ma$$holes. Please stay home, don’t come here you might get eaten alive by black flies or something and then there are all those nasty guns...everywhere!!!! Please disregard the Welcome to NH signs, they aren’t meant for you.
I suspect when the dust clears most chain stores will have closed leaving only a few top performers and several thousand unemployed people with no hope of finding work and hundreds of thousands of square feet of vacate retail space that will never be filled. Way to go Seattle!
That really depends on what current wage scales are like. It may not be that significant of a jump so if prices are already inflated, maybe it can be absorbed. A true test would be trying it somewhere in flyover country.
