More than two-thirds of America's youth would fail to qualify for military service because of physical, behavioral or educational shortcomings, posing challenges to building the next generation of soldiers even as the U.S. draws down troops from conflict zones.
The military deems many youngsters ineligible due to obesity, lack of a high-school diploma, felony convictions and prescription-drug use for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. But others are now also running afoul of standards for appearance amid the growing popularity of large-scale tattoos and devices called ear gauges that create large holes in earlobes.

All eligibility criteria do is stifle diversity. The armed forces can either strike down the eligibility requirements in the name of diversity, or the rejects can petition a court for relief.

I know they have no morality; that is why they can’t tell anyone to do ANYTHING (they have conceded that option, since it is a defining feature of “liberalism”). They can encourage, but not compel. Conducting meaningless wars is easier with a volunteer military (for both parties); one reason Europe has been so pacifist is because some countries still have service requirements (and are therefore more accountable for how they spend those lives).
I don’t think Jason has a snowball’s chance in Hell, but thinks are so weird now, who really knows?

Yep, they’ve got to be picky enough to “need” those illegals that we’re supposed to get teary-eyed about and give citizenship to because they “serve”.
That bunch of liberals in DC is doing a fine job of issuing edicts day and night for people who can't tell anyone to do anything.
As for moral authority, they don't have squat, but that doesn't stop them from pushing rules and regulations up America's collective keester.

As I understand it, the draft from WWII had never ended when Vietnam rolled around; if it ended in 1975 then Ford stopped it.
Don’t lose sleep over a draft; IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. There is nothing left to defend, and resistance would be MASSIVE. Look at the demonstrations against our military actions with a volunteer military; how are they ever going to get those young people to shut up and show up?
My Band Director there was a former Marine, probably the main reason for me joining the Marines.
With the end of active U.S. ground participation in Vietnam, December 1972 saw the last men conscripted, who were born in 1952 and who reported for duty in June 1973. On February 2, 1972, a drawing was held to determine draft priority numbers for men born in 1953, but in early 1973 it was announced that no further draft orders would be issued. In March 1973, 1974, and 1975, the Selective Service assigned draft priority numbers for all men born in 1954, 1955, and 1956, in case the draft was extended, but it never was. Jeff Mellinger, the last drafted enlisted ranked soldier still on active duty, retired in 2011.

I registered (almost twenty five years ago), and I would encourage people to do so if that is still the law (in case it is held against you that you didn’t). I certainly would never show up if called, unless we were going after the mosques in nearby Jersey City...
Actually, I still have my draft card. Nixon shut it down (the lottery, anyway) before I went in for my physical.
I won’t lose sleep over a draft, not for my sake anyway, but I have a small tribe of grandkids, and it is their future I am concerned with.
Our foreign policy is such a train wreck under this administration, it would grieve me to have them press-ganged to enforce it. If they choose to join they have my full backing, as do our troops in the field.
I have sons that will be eligible in a few years; I’ll strongly encourage them to seek opportunity elsewhere. The foreign policy is so haphazard, and I can;t forget the BJ Clinton sent Americans to bomb Serbia/kill people because his impeachment was hitting the news...

Don't know how you can tie illegals to this in any objective way. Most 18 year olds are not working now but from my observations, some personal, they are not open to doing work that illegals currently do. They appear to desire a job in a cubicle or wearing a suit. It's not like it was when I was that age and picking fruit, cleaning up messes and labor jobs were not rejected.
IMO, the draft is a good thing still, and it teaches life lessons that will be used indefinitely by the young person no matter what the sex. and after a couple years of service the option is open to return to civilian life as a better person and a more valuable employee.
