Why no outrage over the IRS' tea party targeting?
Baltimore Sun ^ | June 29, 2014 | by Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.

... American citizens were targeted by a powerful government agency on account of their political opinions — an unforgivable sin in a democracy where freedom of speech is protected and valued.

Democratic party reaction has been muted, even defensive. The old "there's nothing there" mantra has been trotted out every time another new and relevant revelation comes to light. Come to think of it, this would be the type of scenario a young, community activist, Harvard Law professor would typically get excited about. After all, these citizens are victims.

Alas, these particular victims are tea party folks — an exception to the rule. Such is the way of selective progressive indignation circa 2014. Can you imagine the outrage if the shoe were on the other foot?

"Why no outrage over the IRS' tea party targeting?"

For the same reason Pravda didn't make a stink about the gulags.

The reaction is precisely what one expects of governments dominated by fascism.

The comments are most enlightening, seems that the constitution does apply equally. Rights for us, but none for thee.

For the same reason that the senior Senator from Chappaquiddick never spent a single moment in jail.

65% of the electorate don’t pay income taxes. They don’t even know what IRS stands for.

An excellent comparison. A perfect comparison of apples with apples.

"They (65% of the electorate who don't pay taxes) don't even know what IRS stands for."

That would make a great question for Fox's Jesse Watters to ask on his "man on the street" gig....i.e., "What do the initials IRS stand for?"

Bill O'Reilly, are you reading this?

(...I know, dumb question of the year...sorry).

Could it be that some GOPe members were involved? That would mute interest on both sides of the aisle.

The media’s lack of attention is understandable since they use the same bias in their reporting; it just seems natural to them that a government agency would be used to win elections.

Why no outrage? That’s easy. Because for the uniparty, the political infrastructure...and let’s face it...the majority of the electorate, the ends justify the means.

You don’t fix that by reference to a rigged electoral system. You fix that by getting a divorce.

In part because few know about it. In part because a larger case needs to be made. Our side describes it as ‘targeting the tea party’. It needs to be discussed as using the IRS for political gain and revenge. Make it more general and get it out beyond the highly engaged newsies. Say these are actions that would make Nixon blush.

It’s largely about effective messaging. Something our side continues to do poorly. The tea party has effectively been painted as some fringe group even as many who share every view of the movement think they aren’t part of it.
