..... In support of bag bans, the Surfrider Foundation has posted a video that asserts, "Plastics kill 1.5 million marine animals each year."

"I have no idea where they got that number," Joel Baker, environmental science professor at the University of Washington, Tacoma, told me. He has assigned students to track down that number, and "the trail goes cold." ....

Sometimes that’s all you have to go on and it leads you in the direction for the proper solution. Afterall, as engineers, and not scientists, that’s what they pay us for!

What!!!??? ... another leftist myth down the tubes? Lefties start these things, and they become “proven” facts in no time. My own study says 99% of leftist speech results in gaseous emissions that are harmful to at least 95% of humanity. Ban leftists is my solution. Let them try to disprove my uh scientific study.

It’s the seriousness of the charge rather than the nature of the evidence.

"anything with water"

Many years ago I had an argument with a woman who claimed that you had to drink pure water (no juices or other drinks) to get water. I told her every drink is largely composed of water. She wasn't sure about that, she thought she heard that they didn't count. Some time later she saw me and admitted I was right.

While there is no doubt that the trashy oceans are a problem, the left likes to enhance their “findings” to make the problem appear more, uh, problematic.

Leftists make their own mess by exaggerating everything from global warming, population growth, plastic in the ocean, sex assaults on college campi, and virtually everything else. They are incapable of telling the truth about a matter.

“a woman who claimed that you had to drink pure water (no juices or other drinks) to get water. “

Hah!
Did she also sign the petition to ban di hydrogen monoxide?!

And to think these people are allowed to vote!

Actually, my scientific research (there now, that's settled) indicates that plastics kill 1.65 million marine animals per year.

I.7 BILLION diatoms can fit into one plastic water bottle, with Perrier being the worst. This is settled science. But one simply must have a couple of these bottles tucked into the Spandex ... it's just that the peasants and Conservatives must be encouraged not to use them

Should the line connecting the points be positively or negatively sloped? Maybe the fish are being endangered by a food source that causes obesity.

"You should drink 8 glasses of water a day".

Other than the occasional sip from the school drinking fountain, I don't recall EVER drinking water at home.

We had our own well and it was iron water.....awfull tasting stuff.

I grew up with that kind of well water, but got used to it. I did not have my first dental cavity until I was in my late 50s. The dentist said the minerals in the water may have had a lot to do with that.

Not everything to preserve the environment is hugging a tree.

Nor is your "gut feelings" or the biases based on your familiarity/ignorance of science or interest therein.

The excesses and perversions of science by a surplus of enthusiasm and political correctness, based on nothing, has been painfully evident in the last couple of decades, when dealing with "global warming" or whatever new name they have attached to it this week to keep the ignorant scared about the end of the world.

Extrapolations and "computer models" are the truly ignorant's tools for arguing about subjects no one really understands; other than "it must be really bad!"

Has anyone produced an actual photo of this mythical mountain of plastic. Apparently it is big enough to be seen from space.

Too much imbibing in illegal substances will create "facts" such as this one.
Totally made up and never substantiated.

Doesn't prevent the totally ignorant from getting all excersized.

I once found a bunch of trash on the Oregon coast; a lot of plastic bottles and containers from some Asian country. I don’t know how it got there.

Occam's Razor suggests a passing ship.
The maritime traffic between the orient and the West coast is huge...

That Oregon coast is some of the most beautiful country on this earth.

Now there's a really useful contribution to this thread...

While my wife's urologist tells her that "it's almost impossible to drink too much water"

I suppose that explains why, from time to time, we read about another death by drinking too much water, by nut jobs or "jackass" types.
