So they try to take guns away from the normal, non-violent people, and leave them in the hands of the violent criminals.

“Blame the police officers - lets not hold accountable the street thugs - low educated - drop outs... no no no...let’s not blame the very people that put Obama into office several times....geez...”

The cops aren’t going to risk their lives, jobs, and pensions for this vermin. When NJ police were censured for their (very effective) police work along the New Jersey Turnpike years ago (which was misrepresented as simply a racial issue rather than sound, proven police tactics), they simply stood down and let the flow of drugs and guns proceed northward to the NYC metro area (which includes Newark, NJ). Those cities immediately reported sharp increases in gun crimes that haven’t slowed yet.

Cops now make accident reports, and at the end of the day they go home to their loved ones. The ethnic malcontents got what they wanted (and then some).

“which is why I left LE for good - it’s not worth it!”

In my area most stuck with it; they just don’t risk anything anymore. It is extremely lucrative pay, many of them aren’t really qualified to do anything else (often getting the easiest associates degrees possible just to get the jobs), and the cost of living here is high. As we’ve started laying off cops due to budget issues, those who are laid off often have to leave the area for work; the economic stagnation here is long-term (in part due to the government workers who survive layoffs, as well as the retirement packages of previous cops), and other parts of the country are willing to hire officers who have already been through the academy.

Here's a great FR article from over the weekend. Read the accompanying article from chicagomag.com. I have to admit, I was even believing the murder numbers were coming down in Chicago. What's the old saying..."lies, damn lies and statistics"?

Looks like another Democrat mess. They create welfare, food stamps, etc. and keep minorities subservient, living in the hood with no hope for a better life, waiting for the gub’ment check (in exchange for the vote). The only way out is through crime and drugs. Democrats have treated minorities as second-class citizens for years. Too bad most blacks haven’t figured that out.

Have they tried Midnight Basketball? The city could probably also scam out some federal money for that one as well.

It would be a win-win!

In the early 60’s my dad used to purchase surplus WWII guns from a store in Alexandria, VA. No prior approval, no background check. Just send in your money and the gun, even a handgun, was mailed to you. So we changed the law and made guns harder to get and we now have more shootings. Seems to me politicians should be looking at the real causes of society’s ills: like a lack of jobs, common language, pockets of poverty and crime, excess leisure time giving rise to crime thanks to an overly generous welfare system, etc.

Chicago must pay legal fees in gun store lawsuit

ISRA Press Release:
Unfair Actions Against Firearm Retailers Prove Expensive To Municipalities

CHICAGO, July 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

Municipalities planning to inhibit the lawful commerce in firearms, ammunition and accessories had better think twice in light of a ruling against the City of Chicago handed down by a federal judge last Thursday. In that ruling, the judge ordered Chicago to reimburse nearly $1 million in legal fees to plaintiffs in a lawsuit decided against the city in 2010. The case in question struck down the city’s ban on the operation of gun shops and target ranges within city limits.

The judge’s decision to award reimbursement of legal fees in the Chicago case comes just days before the Niles, Illinois Village Council will rule on whether to approve a proposal to establish and operate a gun shop and target range in the village’s industrial area. The village zoning board had earlier approved the proposal but pressure from a New York City based gun control group caused the Village Council to reconsider the proposal. The full Niles Village Council will take the matter up on Monday, July 7th.

“Bans on gun shops and ranges will prove to be expensive propositions for municipalities,” said ISRA Executive Director, Richard Pearson. “Gun control groups ride into town and bully public officials into passing unconstitutional ordinances then quickly leave town before the legal trouble begins. When the smoke clears, the municipality is left footing the bill and the gun controllers are nowhere to be seen.”

“The Niles Village Council should ponder well Chicago’s experience,” continued Pearson. “Jeopardizing the village’s bank balance so that some out-of-state gun control group can put a mark on the wall is not good public policy. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel could have patched a lot of potholes with the million bucks he has to pay out.”

The ISRA is the state’s leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

“...We also have to give our young people alternatives to the street, and as a community we need to demand more of ourselves and our neighbors.”

Explain to me what those alternatives might be, Rahm, and how the administration you helped bring to the White House is addressing this? Do you think it's ‘boredom’ that leads to this? When youth grow up with no respect for human life - including their own, there is something very, very wrong - and it's not just the lack of ‘alternatives’.

A great paragraph from the article:

“The easy diagnosis, in many Chicagoans’ eyes, is that the Chicago Police Department needs more officers. Maybe so. But that’s asking for more dollars from a City Hall that is drowning in debt after decades in which politicians spent money Chicago couldn’t realistically anticipate as revenue on costly obligations Chicago couldn’t afford. Whatever it took to get re-elected. Thursday’s decision from the Illinois Supreme Court — a ruling that retiree benefits promised by the pols are sacrosanct — suggests that the city may have to slash policing and other services before it ever can dream of hiring more cops.”

It’s hard to believe that was in the Tribune. Chicago’s bankruptcy will make Detroit’s failure look good.
