Thursday during debate on the Senate floor about an amendment offered by Republican Senator John Thune requiring 350 miles of double-layer fencing along the southern border, Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu called the fence "dumb" and claimed South Dakota is a border state. Thune's amendment backs up the 2006 Secure Fence Act (which Landrieu voted for) requiring 700 miles of double layer fence along the southwest border with Mexico, of which only 36 miles have been completed.
Im going to speak about this amendment for just a minute, but Ild like to respond to Senator Thune, and I wish that we could get a vote on his amendment as well as this one because I would like to strongly vote and strongly express objection to this amendment. And Id like to comments for a minute. I chair the Homeland Security Appropriations Committee that is actually building the fence. The money to build it comes though my Committee, so Ive actually gone down to look at the fence that were trying to build. It was shocking to me and would be shocking to everyone in America if they would see it. That no matter if you build a single fence or a double fence with space in between, how easy it is for people to be very ingenious about getting over it or under it. So I would be voting against Senator Thunes amendment because Im, not going to waste taxpayer money on a dumb fence and that s what his amendment would be. We need to build a smart fence.

A fence will help keep America from being invaded, and that is not a good thing to Democrats
When did North Dakota become part of Canada?
Or is it part of Mexico now?
Once a brainless bimbo, always a brainless bimbo. More proof that democrats crawl out of the low end of the gene pool.
During my time in northern North Dakota, the unofficial motto was 40 degrees below keeps the riff-raff out. That and the locals who carry and are very touchy about trespassers. They’re lucky North and South Dakota aren’t border states.
I would imagine that the homeless bums don't hang around after the Autumn Equinox. They all head for Los Angeles.
Most indigents were out of there by the end of September or the first freeze, whichever comes first.
Minot was called the million dollar corner of the state because of all the millionaire farmers who had amassed large holdings since the 30s, held the land and right of ways for interstate 90 interchanges and who leased patches of their land to the Air Force for Minuteman missile sites. A lot of them herded their cattle to winter holding operations, closed up the farm and split for Florida, Arizona, New Mexico for the winter.
The low crime rate fell even more when the 20 below and ground blizzards hit.
North Dakota IS a border state but canuck refugees seem to prefer the Mayo clinic in Minnesoota
The Democrats are just telegraphing their long term strategy and goals for the country.
The constant carp of liberal politicians, if it is not PERFECT from the very beginning, don’t bother. The show-and-tell of people going over the fences ignores the fact that it keeps truckloads from easy crossing. Where the model fence is in southern California, the enemy spend lots of money and effort in digging tunnels and the like. Even so it reduces the flow so it is BETTER than Senator Landrieu’s NOTHING!
This is a campaign commercial waiting to be filmed and broadcast.
I’m sure Saturday Night Live will do a skit on it any time now...any time.
