Truth be told, it was principally the Republican party in the United States that saw the value of Mohammad Reza as an ally and treated him with warmth, respect, and friendship. Prominent Republican President Ronald Reagan, who held office from 1980 to 1988, spoke favorably of the Shah, calling him "a stalwart ally" and criticizing Jimmy Carter's attitudes towards him. Another Republican President, the well-known Richard Nixon, who sat from 1969 until 1974, openly praised the Shah. Hosting the Shah at a dinner at the White House, Nixon referenced a visit he had made to Iran in the aftermath of World War II when he said, "When I left Iran, I knew it would make it...particularly because of the personality and the strength and the character of the man who is our honored guest tonight." For his part, the Shah returned President Nixon's friendship, supporting him during the Watergate scandal and becoming the frequent target of American media in return. The Shah also appreciated the Republicans in general, using his considerable wealth to fund their party during elections.

I stopped reading right there as this is an outright falsehood. Reagan never spent a day as POTUS in 1980 and left office in 1989.
With this type of glaring error, I decided not to even read further to decide if I agreed with the writer or if he even had a reasonable hypothesis.
The German press, both left and right, referred to him as “Erdfussbauer,” or “peanut farmer.” And yes, he screwed us for a generation, by opening the gates to a militant despotic theocracy enimical to the United States. Thanks to his more (or less) accomplished successor 0bama, those regimes are now everywhere.
Look how Carter used the occasion of a State Dinner for the Shah of Iran to chastise him for a few alleged so called human rights abuses. Later Carter would go on to abandon not just our friend, but a great and just leader of the people of Iran.
The people of America and the people of Iran loved and respected the Shah of Iran for his selfless devolution to his people and his respect for the United States.
Carter will always be hated for his cutting of foreign aid to the Shah of Iran.

I think the reference was to the 1980 presidential elections when President Reagan said “Shah is a Stalward” ally. It could have been worded better and i’m pretty sure they will correct it. However, don’t allow that one typo or mishap take away from the rest of the article.
