President Obamas request of $3.7 billion in emergency funding for the border is too high, the House chairman with purview over spending said Friday.
"No, that's too much," Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said when asked whether the House would pass the spending bill outlined by the administration.
Rogers did not offer specifics of what House Republicans would prefer to pass instead.
The House Appropriations Committee and the House GOP working group on border security are reviewing Obamas request, and are expected to provide the House Republican Conference with an update next Tuesday.
"Hopefully we can give you a better answer next week," Rogers told reporters outside the House chamber.
Rogers indicated that the House would likely act on the supplemental appropriations request before leaving for the month-long August recess.
"Oh, yeah," Rogers said when asked whether the House would take action by then.
Rogers said that some of the funding requested by Obama could be handled through the regular appropriations process, in which Congress passes 12 individual bills to fund the federal government.
But, he said, "There are pieces that need to be dealt with immediately."

How about finding some areas to cut back on in the DHS budget? It’s so pork laden as to boggle the mind.

The new budget starts in October....so all they need is get though the 2 1/2 months. Of course....flying these folks all over the country is expensive....and a big joke.
Let's be fair to these kids...put them in DC suburbs and send them to Sidwell.

You’re right and if they cut it by only a few million the GOP caves again.

Take it out of the State Department’s budget. John Kerry spreads the billions around as if he were feeding bread to ducks.

Tell him he won’t get a DIME until he’s saved the amount he wants by stopping his vacay-every-other-day policy.

Think of it this way: If those ‘children’ are permitted to remain here, what kind of an astronomical increase will we see in ‘Obama Care’? ( And for that matter, increases all across the board in this country?)
This whole debacle is more unthinkable and unrealistic all the time.

RE:”
Chairman: Obama won't get $3.7 billion’ GOP could add a poison pill to a funding bill, like specifically outlawing Obamas deferred program. If they were really against it.
They claim its what caused the problem.
Note that having won his joke GOP primary Grahamnesty is aback to warning the GOP that they must pass this funding bill, like he did with amnesty.

Obama creates one crisis after another as a form of blackmail depending on taxpayer bailouts. Not going to happen this time? We’ll see.

Make it zero. DHS is fully funded through October, IIRC. Let them pay for Obama’s latest crime.
