MOVING BEYOND CAPE BOJADOR

The early Portuguese explorers believed that the oceans were impassable below Cape Bojador, a point on the West African coast. When sailors set aside their fears and moved past Cape Bojador, they found that their fears were groundless, that their limitations were imaginary. We all have our own Cape Bojador. We fear things that we need not fear. We draw boundaries around areas of our lives and decide that we can't go past them.

Since we believe these false paradigms, we will stay within their artificial boundaries and lose whatever experiences we might have found outside them. What limits do we set upon ourselves? Have you thought about working on your college degree, but fear getting started? Does a certain rating appeal to you, but others have told you it was unattainable, so you have remained where you are? Advancement or promotion seems so far away that we resign ourselves to our present position and fail to expand our skills and knowledge.

More than 300 years before the time of Christ, Alexander the Great was marching across Asia Minor. He led the greatest army ever put together up to that time. They had conquered every foe. No one could stand up against them. They reached the Himalaya Mountains, and the advance leaders came back to Alexander full of concern and dismay. "We have marched off the map," they said. "We should go back to where we know." And they had literally marched off the known map of that time. Alexander listened to them and then said this: "Mediocre armies always stay within the known areas. The great armies always march off the map."

Making decisions, initiating new relationships, starting projects, taking a leap of faith, all require that we go beyond our Cape Bojador. Are we willing to press on and take the chance of "marching off the map?" Let's go for it! Full speed ahead!

OMG...where did you find those?

I LOVE the Music of the Russian Orthodox Church!

(Even when i was a creepy little agnostic in the 60’s i used to go to the ROC in my neighborhood just to hear the music, look at the icons, and breath in the incense. And for that, I would STAND for two hours or more, as there were no pews!)

Thank You for posting these!

Each apartment has its own circuit panel inside, and then there is a room at the end of the building with the meters (each with a separate main breaker).

The A/C was such a hugh and series short that it tripped the main breaker to my unit. It is very disheartening to look out and see everyone with electricity except ME!

It is most definitely a “landlord issue”, and they have been very prompt and helpful, but it happened on a Friday night.

I have power now, and can cook, but the hot water heater was so damaged that I will have to shower at the clubhouse if i really want a hot one.

Meanwhile, Comcast is sending me a new cable box so I can watch TV again sometime in the near future.

So it’s cold showers and internet for now.

Lynn-dah was concerned at first but she likes her water cold anyway so all is well.

It's looking real good. They did go ahead and put the flooring in the new living room yesterday. They now are working on the pieces in the get it to stick.

Here is the new light

fixture:

This is the tree that was trimmed on Thursday.

And, this is the brand new floor that was put in yesterday

Hopefully everything will be wrapped up today. They arrived a few minutes ago and are working as I type this.

You are most welcome, ML!

A Blessed Lord's Day to you and yours!

I went onto Amazon and purchased a couple of digital albums. The two works I posted were the specific ones I was looking for - I had sung them in choir back in the 80's. As a bonus, I have an additional 42 pieces you'll be hearing in the future.

Amazing Grace
(Click)

By John Newton

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

DEAR LORD, who suffered torment, agony, and death upon the Cross to free our souls from the chains of iniquity, protect and defend our troops. Guide them in the performance of their duties. Strengthen them to endure hardship, danger and deprivation in Your service. Let their efforts free the people of Iraq and Afghanistan from the chains of terror and slavery, foster a lasting peace in the region, and bring all to a greater share in Your Mercy. Amen.
