The black slaves of Islam

As a black young man from Ethiopia, I have always felt angry at the West for the slavery colonization of the black continent. Many think that Christianity came to Africa from the West, but the irony is that we were actually the first Christians, from Egypt to Nubia to Ethiopia (including Eritrea), before the West even knew anything that was Christian.

I condemn anyone who would force someone to believe what they believe or enforce their way of life on others. This week it kind of amused me to see the world in chaos because the tiny Jewish state replied to the bombardment of Hamas. The worst of all was to see many black Muslims riot with the Arabs. I couldn’t believe what I saw, because the barbarian Arabic Islamic apartheid states to this day take pleasure in the suffering of our black brothers, both Muslim and non-Muslim. We have suffered for centuries before the West even arrived in Africa. They have destroyed our civilizations and raided our lands for booty and slaves for centuries, and no one talks about that.

Let’s say that was history, but to this day, many of our black brothers suffer, and there is no help coming. The first reason for that is that they are not Muslims, and when they convert, they still are not Muslim enough, because they still kept something from their cultures. Even if they are Muslim enough, they are not Arabs but black people; that condemns them into slavery in the Islamic world to this day. I can provide many examples, from Sudan to Mauritania to the smallest of the Islamic nations, Gaza (run by Hamas), of how they kidnap, torture, enslave and organ harvest, right up to the moment that you are reading my

Large scale slavery came to Africa on the same time and scale that Islam came to Africa. Before the Portuguese started trading slaves, many of the people which Islam conquered either became converts and slave traders themselves (as Obama's ancestors) or wound up dead.

This statement doesn't in any way justify slavery, but merely states the facts.

Not exactly. Many Ethiopians believe their's was the first Christian state, but they're wrong.

The first Christian state was Armenia, in 301. Ethiopia became a Christian state probably sometime around 340.

Anywho, the notion that "the West" knew nothing about Christianity before 300 or so is just ignorant and stupidly ethnocentric.

Large scale slavery preceded Islam by many centuries. Carthage had a large slave trade across the Sahara, as did the Romans later. The Egyptians, even earlier, traded and raided for black slaves into Nubia.

Muslims continued and expanded this trade, they didn’t invent it.

BTW, if you have something resembling evidence that Obama’s ancestors were slave traders, I’d like to see it.

Also BTW, the slave trade across the Sahara was much more brutal and had a much higher death rate than the transatlantic trade operated by white guys.

That's putting it mildly. They turned East Africa and Central Africa as far south as the Congo into slaving zones, in the process extinguishing the indigenous African regimes of the area. Afrocentrists love talking about the various African empires but are always fuzzy about how they went away, leaving it to their audience to assume it was because of the Evil White Man.

Of course, large scale slavery preceded Islam by many centuries. It was practiced among Native American tribes as well. In fact, it was fairly universal.

But after Carthage and later Rome fell, conditions in Africa and most of the former Roman Empire were too chaotic to continue the institution.

Said condition lasted several centuries. It was organized Islam which brought slavery back to the African continent on a scale rivaling Rome and Carthage.

There are a number of sources which point to Obama's ancestors being probable slave traders-- locations, movement, tribal history and even his own genealogy. D'Souza's 2012 documentary Obama's America hints at a number of them, as does the history of Kenya, Zanzibar, German East Africa and the like. Zanzibar, in particular, served as a slave trading center until post World War I when German East Africa was taken over by Great Britain as a result of that war.

Some of the better genealogy sites, including Ancestry.Com (which requires a subscription for full access) traces Obama's patriarchal ancestry from the slave trading centers along the coast, especially Zanzibar, to the inland highlands of Kenya.

Indeed, the intense tribal hatred of all things British can be traced to Great Britain's strict enforcement and aggressive suppression of the slave trade from the time they colonized Kenya. It essentially impoverished Obama's Luo Tribe and forced them to move inland to take up agricultural pursuits.

German East Africa allowed it to operate unofficially because their foreign service was mostly military conscripts who came from the lower rungs of society, were poorly paid and accepted bribes to look the other way. On the other hand, the British foreign service came mostly from high society and had a sense of duty which wasn't easily bought off.

While none of this conclusively proves that Obama's ancestors were slave traders, all of the indicators are there.

So true. I took university courses in African history and they are strangely silent on why the great university cities such as Timbuktu became economic backwaters long before the white man arrived.

They get very uncomfortable if you point out that it happened at precisely the same time Islam arrived.

Blacks embraced Christ before Europe. Christmas IS a black Holiday. Done via Coptic Egypt what accepted Christ (many still do). The white man is the evil force in history in a relic of 19th Century imperialism and the leftist opposition to it. I believe Africa was better ran under the great powers than it is now—the life span was longer.

Zanzibar, in particular, served as a slave trading center until post World War I when German East Africa was taken over by Great Britain as a result of that war.

I always like to point out that in all of Africa, there was only one place, only one, where spontaneous large-scale massacres took place at independence. Zanzibar became independent on a Friday in April 1964 and by Sunday night ~40,000 Arabs were killed. Tells you something.
