NAACP lays out five point plan to reduce gun violence

Grown-up time means Jim Vincent, president of the Rhode Island NAACP, calling a news conference on the steps of the Garrahy Judicial Complex in response to a drive-by shooting in Chad Brown late Tuesday night in which five people were injured. The NAACP, in consultation with other neighborhood groups, issued a “Call to Action,” demanding that Providence Mayor Angel Taveras call a leadership conference to discuss solutions to a problem that is putting families and children at risk.

In addition to the leadership conference the NAACP also called upon Governor Chafee to direct the Governor’s Workforce Board “to establish targeted workforce development programs” in neighborhoods with high unemployment.

Vincent also wants Mayor Taveras to “evaluate the Providence Recreation Department to determine its effectiveness in providing recreation and youth development services to increase its relevancy.”

Vincent also wants 15% of the Google settlement money. This would provide about $30 million “to support youth development and ex-offender training and employment programming,” a real investment in our communities.

Lastly, the NAACP wants the Public Safety Commission to “establish a community liaison to connect high crime neighborhoods with the police department to help prevent wars and provide mediation support.”

At the same time, these proposals are targeting some of the causes of violence instead of just calling for more useless gun control. I was actually surprised that not a single one of their proposals had anything to do with guns.

Will these measures solve the problem? No. Is there more they could do? Absolutely. They could provide firearms training to citizens to allow them to protect themselves. They could bring in the non-profit organization (the name escapes me) that's been providing free training and free shotguns to inner city women in Texas. Any of those things would help the people to protect themselves from the violence around them. But their proposals might help.

“Vincent also wants 15% of the Google settlement money. This would provide about $30 million”

In all my years watching these people I have never seen a single time when they proposed a “solution” that did not entail them being given money that they did not earn or deserve and were not entitled to in any way.

There aren’t five points. There’s only one:

So let's see, the NAACP wants:

  1. A boondogle "leadership conference" that will have no real impact on violence or crime.
  2. Blow money on workforce development which is useless unless there are actually jobs for people to do. Hey, I can train you to be a typewriter repairman, not going to be real useful...
  3. Have one government group evaluate the effectiveness of another government group. Oh yeah, that'll help. Note, just evaluate, not offer recommendations or even, gasp, make changes...
  4. Oh, yeah, send $30 million to me to play with.
  5. Pay some one or more people to be a liaison between high crime neighborhoods and the police. Pay the criminals directly.

No surprise, no useful suggestions at all.

These groups get tens of million from the taxpayers. Can't remember which group, La Raza, LULAC or some such was getting federal funds and the NAACP can use a boost, since they are an endangered species.

It's like Jackson and Sharptongue embezzling funds from corporations because they don't want to fight a boycott.

I am a little dubious of the reporting on this. I may have missed it, but I did not see anywhere that the NCCLCP or the politicians called for the disarming of honest law abiding people.

Well, to be honest I also did not see where they called for the disarming of the dishonest and lawbreaking people either.
But this being New England, I would think circumventing the Second Amendment would be a least 1 thru 4 on their list of five points.

five point plan to reduce gun violence

Lemme guess: all five involves taking what is mine, what I have a constitutional right to keep and bear.

Hell. No.

25% of a certain Demographic that consists of 12% of the total Population is responsible for over 50% of the Violent Crime in this Country.

That boils down to the fact that 3% of the entire Population is responsible for over 50% of the Violent Crime.

Guess who is “represented” by the NAACP...

They sure are worried that there takeover of the US won't work if citizens have guns. He's let out dangerous prisoners out, the 5 terrorist who will have time to regroup and hit the US, he's letting terrorist sneak across the border and using the children to do it. His planned scandals are causing chaos, which is what he wanted. What's left in Alinskys rules?

God help us!
