15 Reasons Why the Pro-Life Movement is Winning on Abortion
Life News ^ | 7/16/14 | Jill Stanek

Posted on 07/16/2014 9:01:31 AM PDT by wagglebee

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade in January 2013, Time magazine published a surprising and iconic cover story about how the pro-choice side has been losing ever since it thought it won in 1973. The reasons Time listed were spot on:

  1. Pro-life laws
  2. Public sentiment
  3. Pro-abortion generational in-fighting
  4. Playing defense (defending the status quo)
  5. Science
  6. Stigma
  7. Aging abortionists

prolifestudents36

Indeed, abortion advocates have been in an admitted state of panic for quite some time over building pro-life momentum.

But within the past several days two abortion advocates have separately admitted their side is losing…

Other recent abortion articles have hit on the same theme…

Here are 15 reasons why abortion proponents think pro-lifers are crushing them, as lifted from the aforementioned abortion articles. A couple were included in Time’s list, but most are in addition:

  1. Obama’s election and reelection prompted pro-life groups to focus on state avenues to pass legislation rather than federal.
  2. Due to the Republican wave of 2010, in part in response to Obama’s election in 2008, there has indeed been a huge spike in pro-life laws passed on the state level - 226 since 2011, more than the entire previous three decades combined.
  3. The convoluted passage of Obamacare in 2010 was “rocket fuel” to the pro-life movement, writes Kliff, quoting Americans United for Life’s Charmaine Yoest, which led to the introduction of some of those bills.
  4. A profusion of abortion clinic closures, 81 in 2013 alone, according to Operation Rescue. The number of abortion clinics has decreased by 73% to 759 from a high of 2,176 in 1991.
  5. Moves to defund Planned Parenthood.
  6. The Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision.
  7. The Supreme Court’s buffer zone decision.
  8. The abortion lobby’s inability to reframe the debate into one about discrimination. “Unfortunately, even the name ‘pro-choice’ reinforces that the movement is about acts and not identity,” writes Michaelson.
  9. The abortion lobby’s inability to reframe the issue into one all can relate to.
  10. The abortion lobby’s shortage of poster children. Sandra Fluke, for instance, was a dud.
  11. Their opponents (us!) are “sophisticated… smart and methodical,” according to Michaelson.
  12. Even liberals as a political body aren’t united in support of abortion, because as Michaelson admits, “Abortion is a kind of murder.” Ew.
  13. No Fortune 500 corporations are lining up to support abortion, as they are with the homosexual lobby, which would bring “movement dollars and public awareness,” writes Michaelson.
  14. “Feminism has an image problem,” writes Michaelson.
  15. Religion: “Secular arguments about the separation of church and state may play well to the base,” writes Michaelson. “But they don’t move the middle.”

In a nutshell, quoting VanEgeren:

Whether it’s through hundreds of laws passed at the state level or the recent Hobby Lobby decision that allows companies to deny birth control coverage to employees on religious grounds, the pro-life movement is on a winning streak over access to abortions and birth control.

“It’s kind of like waiting for the other shoe to drop,” said Elizabeth Nash, state issues manager with the Guttmacher Institute, a think-tank focused on sexual and reproductive health policy. “I’m not entirely sure what will happen next.”

2014-07-15_1342

Well, here’s another shoe, impossible for abortion proponents to fill. Quoting Sarah Weddington (pictured), the lawyer who successfully persuaded the Supreme Court in Roe v Wade, speaking at an event on July 12, via KnoxNews.com:

“Today, the young people are so much further (along) than I was at their age,” she said. “They speak more languages. They go on more trips. They have to show me how to use my iPhone … but one of the things we haven’t quite managed to do is to give them the same burning motivation to change things that we believe are wrong in the way that we did.”

In other words, the pro-choice crowd has no rear guard. They killed them.

LifeNews.com Note: Jill Stanek fought to stop “live birth abortions” after witnessing one as an RN at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. That led to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act legislation, signed by President Bush, that would ensure that proper medical care be given to unborn children who survive botched abortion attempts.

I disagree. Abortion is a tough sell, period. It’s an incredibly emotional decision, and then there is the internet. On the internet are the testimonials of 1000’s of people who have had abortions and regret it.

Gosnell is going to also put a huge dent in abortions. That movie, when it comes out, is going to be an internet hit. Nowadays, people look at women who get pregnant by accident and call them idiots - especially teenagers. They have no problem calling out a pregnant girl and saying, “You’ve heard of the pill, right? How about the morning after pill? Are you new?”

There are a lot more adopted kids around than there ever has been too.

In a cultural war between pro life and abortionists, numbers on each side do count in elections, you got to admit my argument does have some merit. If you ever watch the movie The Godfather, Don Corleone had to deal with the subject of drugs. He knew it was lucrative but it also can affect his Italian community. He was forced to relent, as long as his subordinates kept it out of the Italian neighborhoods. Like the strategic Don said, sell it to the others, let them lose their souls. Abortion is abhorrent, but if your enemies embrace it let them kill off their young while we raise ours. Never stop your enemies from doing stupid things.

IMHO legal right to abortion has kept the Dem ranks down, do the GOP really want them to keep and raise their kids to be future Dem voters if abortion is made illegal?

Nice argument. /sarc

How about this one...

IMHO legal right to abortion has kept the Dem BLACK POPULATION ranks down, do the GOP really want them to keep and raise their kids to be future Dem BLACK voters if abortion is made illegal?

So abortion is fine as long as we keep it out of our neighborhoods.

Hoo boy.

In a cultural war between pro life and abortionists, numbers on each side do count in elections, you got to admit my argument does have some merit.

Let's see, in the past 41 years, the Republicans and Democrats have each controlled the White House for about the same amount of time with a slight edge to the GOP and the Democrats have controlled Congress and the Senate for a considerably longer time than the GOP.

And during this time, 57 MILLION INNOCENT AMERICAN BABIES have been slaughtered.

So no, your "numbers matter" argument fails.

You seem to overlook the fact that the Godfather was intrinsically evil to begin with (you might recall that in the same scene Blacks are dismissed as "animals").

Again, your we can do it because others have done it approach is immoral.

Abortion is abhorrent, but if your enemies embrace it let them kill off their young while we raise ours.

Abortion is either abhorrent to you or you embrace it -- there can be no middle ground! All you are doing here is parroting the "I'm personally opposed, but..." mantra espoused by the left.

So abortion is fine as long as we keep it out of our neighborhoods.

Which is exactly what Big Murder has done, nearly all abortuaries are in inner city areas that are predominantly black.

A lot of it is fear.

After a few serial romances tank, many think “Why marry? It is cheaper to move out than hire a lawyer”.

There is no real concept of marriage, and hasn’t been for a while.

Only a moral relativist would admit your argument has merit. Among those of us who consider abortion murder your point is contemptuous. Get it?

It also is a pretty common assumption, with some merit.

But here is the problem. It assumes that ones political views are almost 100% genetic, and we need to limit the reproduction of people with the “wrong” views.

Freakonomics made the same argument. The whole of the Dem party platform is based on it.

Except people can and do change. My wife’s family were hard core Democrats (all Catholics in her area had to be). She has never voted for the Dems.

Before you go, would you answer one question? Did the original Fee die, and you inherited the computer, already logged in, and ready to post your own opinions? It’s something I always wonder when a long time FReeper says really stupid things.

Are peoples fate determined by their genetics?

I know more than a few children of hard core leftists that are more conservative than most, and the meme of conservative people going wild and abandoning the faith is based on a lot of truth.

Kill the young of liberal democrat voters because they are statistically more likely to become democrat voters themselves?

That is your “pro-life” mind at work?

I think science is a key element.

We WILL have artificial wombs and even fetal transplants.

What happens when a father can sue for custody of the fetus so it can be incubated in an artificial womb? The feminists heads would explode.

The new owner did OK for awhile, but he posted about what was done in acquiring that nic.

That was the end of that.

Since you want to talk political demographics, let us discuss. US population is 65 percent white, 14 percent black, 13 percent hispanic, 3 percent Asian, 3 percent Jewish, 3 percent others. Avg breakdown, amongst Jews and colors for Dem is 2/3 for Dems with hispanics, asians, Jews and 90 percent for Dem amongst blacks. 100 voters, these groups provide 29 Dem voters out of the 51 needed to win a close election. All you need is 22 out of 65 whites to vote Dem to carry the election. The only way white liberals can win is to reach out to minorities with the theme that whites are their enemies and people of color must unite. This has been a good strategy for liberal Dems. 50 percent of the abortions in the US is white and the other half is black/hispanic combination. The whites having abortions are not your conservative whites, but rather moderate/liberal whites. Abortion impacts the Dem demographic coalition more then the conservative coalition. What is riding in this cultural war is not abortion alone, but our economic system and personal liberties. The coalition that supports abortion also supports issues that is the opposite to what most prolife people believe in and trying to preserve. The US has become a divided nation, every election is becoming a hard knuckle affair. Despite control of education, pop culture and MSM, Dems cannot decisively control gov forever because they can barely hobble together a coalition. Abortion has played a behind the scene role (past behvior has come to haunt their present situation). Your post implies that abortion has a black racial dimension, I say yes based on political demographic facts, but not from what your post implies, that I am racially motivated to kill blacks with abortion. Racist no, but I am guilty of being a cold calculating strategic bastard. Wars are won with strategy and tactics, and not principles alone. In terms of winning the war to preserve our free economic system and personal liberties thru close elections, it may be a necessary and useful evil tool to let our enemies inflict on themselves and limit their growth in numbers. While we debate, liberals are on the move to break the demographic deadlock, it is call anmesty and open borders.
