I haven’t seen any poll showing majority support for independence. I’m interested to see what the vibe on the street is in early August.
Scotland could get lucky in that case. Could go from Third World status to First World Country status with the stroke of the pen.
Not being in EU at all would be a boon for Scotland...so no threat at all really
Why anyone, outside the most statist Communist Globalist, would want to join the EU, is beyond me....
Scotland is too Socialist for the EU. LOLOL
Actually, more like, Scotland not Socialist enough for the EU. Any EU membership will cost Scotland $$ and the Scots would be forced by EU to raise taxes to meet many EU standards for membership
In what continent will it be?
I see that you are not very familiar with Scottish politics.
Banned? What no plaid to be seen in all of europe?
I hope England secedes.
What Scotland should say:
"Make it 500 years and you've got a deal."
This announcement will tick off the Scots more. It seems like everyone is telling them that they are a wee, poor, benighted country that can’t do anything right. This may just tip the scales to the pro independence way with Scottish stubbornness
There already is a Scottish independence party that rules the Scottish legislature and they are the ones who called for the independence referendum
Not likely. Now the euro zone collapsing is possible
Yet juncker has little to no powers
Correct impy. The Scots want labour in charge in Westminster
No, it would be bad for Scotland. They would be out of the customs union, visas and would have tariffs etc that would hit their exports and tourism. They would expect the same from the remainder of the united kingdom
Sorry, no. The Scots ate as leftist as the acandanavians
The Scotland election is one of several coming up. I believe the Barcelona state comes up within a couple of weeks after this. And there’s talk of a split election next year within Belgium and Italy. It’ll just incite more folks to consider the idea.
I will offer this historical piece. From the Germanic map of 1800....there were 300 different city-states, empires, kingdoms, and countries representing what is Germany and Poland today. From the European map of 1800...there are a thousand separate entities existing at that point. All of this effort to bring or force people into a federation of sorts...comes from the French Revolution period and Napoleon. Without that....most of Europe would still be divided up in a major way today.
I don’t believe the UK is even in the EU now.
They’re not in the monetary union but they’re still in the EU, albeit tenuously from the looks of recent elections.
Well when I think of Scotland seriously I think of Highlander the movie LOL!
