After serving on the Daviess County Republican Party's leadership team for almost three years, Owensboro native Barbara Knott had enough.
She resigned on July 10 and the reason was simple; Knott cannot support Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell this fall.
"I have resigned from the executive committee of the Republican Party because I will not support Mitch McConnell," Knott, chair of the Owensboro Tea Party, said in a telephone interview. "I have a big 4x8 sign in my front yard that says ‘Retire Mitch.’ It’s going to stay there through the election. I will not vote for that man."
Knott does plan to come out to support other Republican candidates. But in terms of McConnell she is "just fed up" despite voting for him in the past.
Other grassroots conservatives across Kentucky like Knott say their disdain for McConnell has grown in the two months since the GOP primary.
Those activists said McConnell's involvement in the Mississippi Republican primary, specifically funding a controversial ad against the Tea Party challenger, further damages any chance at reconciliation ahead of his contest this fall with Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes.
In the Mississippi runoff, incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran defeated challenger Chris McDaniel by a razor-thin margin. Part of Cochran's victory was an appeal to Democrats, specifically African-Americans voters, who were allowed under Mississippi law to vote in the GOP primary as long they didn't vote in their own.
In the weeks leading up to the June 24 runoff, a group called Mississippi Conservatives ran attack ads suggesting McDaniel's victory would setback Mississippi race relations.
A review of campaign finance records released this week shows that same group received hefty donations from seven sitting GOP senators, including a $50,000 from McConnell's Bluegrass Committee.

I’m not sure what the mood is around here vis a vis Mitch McConnell.
Personally I can’t vote for him and I won’t vote for Grimes, So I plan on writing in Matt Bevin. Call it a protest vote if you will.
I’ve been advocating for the removal of McConnell for two years. He’s an insidious backstabber. The republicans in the senate need new leadership. McConnell won’t retire or step aside, he lusts after the Majority Leader position. The only way to remove him now is in November.
The US Senate will be more conservative if a democrat sits in his seat. That’s a very sad reality.

This infighting crap is going to cost the GOP two, possibly seats in the Senate. McConnell and Cochran are going to be in trouble, and Nunn (D) has the inside track for the seat in Georgia. The November elections are fast becoming a break-even proposition. Thanks, GOP-E assholes.

They moved heaven and earth to prevent any conservatives from getting US Senate nominations across the country. Their fear was that a republican wave would sweep conservatives into their precious Senate. They’d rather lose with moderates than win with conservatives. That way the gravy train continues down the track.
They relish their role of “the Washington Generals to the Harlem Globetrotters”, as stated by many, mConnell is happy as long as he can be the Generals team captain.
Strategically, McConnell is a nightmare for conservatism. But if replaced by a Democrat, it will be a fairly powerless freshman Democrat, whose only power will be if the Democrats get a majority.
However, the Tea Party is so incredibly fed up with the RINOs and establishment Republicans, that they might actually leave the Democrats with a senate majority for two more years, in exchange for purging some of the worst RINOs. As long as Republicans keep the house, it will just be more of the same impasse until the Obot is gone.
McConnell, Cochran, Graham, Alexander, and maybe one or two more might fall without conservative support. Realistically speaking, the Tea Party might take out two or three of them.
It will also be a severe kick in the newts to the remaining Republican establishment, that they are in their last days, no matter how many multinational corporations will betray America to support them, no matter how many primaries they might cheat, they are going to be out on the street.
And conservatives should not be in any way forgiving of them. They will either become Democrats, or get hired by some multinational for their “contacts”, but once in power, conservatives must let these corporations know that keeping them on board works against them in government contracts.
They are lepers. Fire them. They deserve no seat at the table.
What about the Libertarian candidate? Would you consider that option?

My wife and I are voting in the down the ticket races but piss on McConnell. He is pure trash just like the rest of the GOPE trash. Not the kind of people you want to be around or you sully your reputation.
My parents are conservatives from the Goldwater era and are furious with McConnell’s idociy the last 6 yrs. They are voting but down the ticket was well leaving their senate vote on the sideline.
For those who would follow the Republican Party blindly into hell, go for it. If you really believe the tripe they have shoveled for 30 yrs. good for you. I know, I know harry reid(insert bad guy, clinton, obama, grimes...) is the bogey man and we are all going to die blah-blah-blah, same song different verse since 1988.
The GOPE has made it clear I am not welcome in the GOP, conservatives are racist and kooks according to their own adds and except for my vote and money they want me silenced. They want no part of conservatives except obedience to their continuing slide to socialism. No thanks.
Wow! It sounds like the KY Conservatives are abandoning Mitch in droves. AWESOME! Just leave the Senate race blank. Now, having said that: If I lived in Mississippi, I’d vote for the Democrat over Cochran. He is a conservative Democrat. He is Pro-life and Pro-Second Amendment. I’d vote for a one-eyed crack whore before I’d vote for Cochran.
