Eleanor Holmes Norton: 'You don't have a right to know' what's going on at the White House
American Thinker ^ | 7-29-2014 | Rick Moran

Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington, D.C.'s non voting delegate to Congress, has a novel definition of the separation of powers. Becoming exasperated at House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa's insistence that a subpoena to David Simas, director of the administration's Office of Political Strategy, should go forward, Holmes Norton dressed down Issa by claiming the Oversight Committee, which oversees the executive branch, didn't have the right to investigate the White House.

Washington Examiner:

"You don't have a right to know everything in a separation-of-powers government, my friend. That is the difference between a parliamentary government and a separation-of-powers government," Norton said during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing.

It was, to put mildly, a significant departure from the more traditional liberal stance that openness and transparency are must to prevent abuses of power by government officials. Instead the leading advocate for statehood for the District of Columbia literally argued that even the congressional committee charged with oversight shouldn't be asking questions in the first place.

She made the comments while protesting the committee's Republican majority for voting to ignore a claim by the White House that David Simas, director of it's Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, was immune to a congressional subpoena to testify. Republicans believe the office is being used a political campaign operation, a violation of federal election law.

“You don’t have a right to know everything in a separation-of-powers government, my friend. That is the difference between a parliamentary government and a separation-of-powers government,” Norton said

I have given this the BUSH Test to determine its honesty.
It failed. I judge all comments, statements, policies by liberals with the BUSH test. Very simple. If George Bush said, did, thought etc, whatever it is these liberals say, do, think etc, would they then be agreeing with it. If not then it is not an honest statement.

How can government have a right to our tax revenue if we don’t have a right to transparency?

Truer words never spoken. She is the voice of the Gimmedats, incapable of original or independent thought. This is what teachers frequently encounter at parent-teacher conferences, belligerent loudmouths steadfastly making excuses for horrific behavior. That's a main reason WHY the horrific behavior persists. It's never their fault.

Lady, stop trying to make excuses for what is not excusable. Shut the heck up and stop embarrassing yourself.

I agree with you on the not having a vote so her comments as they relate to congressional action are meaningless. However, she is like the 10% on the ice berg you can see, it is the other 90% whom think just like she does.

For fifty years we have been on a path to a balkanized society. It is now evident in the various blocks in the Congress: Black Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, Womyn Caucus and amalgamations of these principal blocks along with the environmental and anti capitalism movements. Note, there is no America first group as they once was; everything now is based on tantrums voiced by these blocks which are strongly aligned against conservatives in general and a national plan which foisted the US to preeminence in the world in particular.

the executive branch are functionaries carrying out the laws enacted by the legislative branch

as such, the legislative branch must verify its laws are being enforced and if they are not... it would exercise its power to remove the head of the executive branch to see that they are

then toss that disgraced ex-head of the executive branch to the judicial branch to face charges and penalties

Your assessment is valid. They won’t stop with a “vote for her”. They want DC statehood with TWO Senators and a Representative. All for a district resident size BELOW the average Congressional district resident size (585K vs over 600K).

Throw in Puerto Rico with the same result and you have an additional 4 Democrat Senators.

But all this pales in comparison with this Tyrant’s overt flaunting of immigration law and potential illegal amnesty for illegal aliens.
