California vs. Texas: Which model is shape of the future?
Baltimore Sun ^

After six decades of doing business in California, Toyota is moving its North American headquarters to Texas. That means 3,000 of the carmaker's jobs will be leaving Torrance and going to Plano, perhaps convincing California officials they should stop Texas Gov. Rick Perry at the border the next time he attempts to come to the Golden State for another raid on businesses.

California clearly was a swing state before Simpson Mazzoli was passed. Conservative Texas will follow if current demographic trends hold up.

.... Liberals/Progressives do not have the capability to understand the concept of cause and effect ..... they are driven purely by emotion and feelings.

Chevron’s headquarters is in San Ramon, CA (Bay Area) and they are moving most, but not all of their corp functions to Texas. Things like IT, purchasing, HR, finance etc.

You can tell yourself that Texans and Californians are the same, but they aren’t and that has already been proven, according to you Texas should have already turned blue, yet it is becoming more conservative.

Texas is not passive, and not already half there as California was, before the 1965 Immigration Act kicked in by the 1970s.

I didn’t say that California didn’t used to be republican, I said that is all they were republican, they were not conservative, they were already famous for being social liberals and non-Evangelical.

I never said California was as conservative as Texas, nor did I say Californians and Texans were the same.

What I said was both states are subject to basically the same demographic changes which will result in the same basic political trends.

Go ahead & deny it if you want, but its seems clear to most everyone else.

Surprisingly balanced article for an author that works for the LA Slimes.

If Texas wants to save itself from the train wreck that is California, they need to start cutting every form of non-retirement entitlement in order to drive the non-working class parasites out of the state to the more generous states, like California.

This is a two-fer. It saves Texas from being overwhelmed by the gimme class and speeds the demise of states like California, since the leeches will migrate to where they can get more gimmee’s...

Something that people need to realize, is that the degree of conservatism makes a difference.

That is why Texas is not already like California.

Texas fights for Texas, and fights for it’s voters, and fights for things like teaching Texas pride in it’s schools and maintaining a more conservative, Christian friendly state

Right now Texas already proves that it isn’t California as it moves right instead of left, after decades of immigration and having the same percentage of Hispanics as California.

It will continue to fight for it’s future, and to convert immigrants and have a stronger divide between conservatism and the democrat party, something that California didn’t have.

I don’t know what it is like today, but for generations, Texas was famous for lousy welfare, while I witnessed people moving to California for the welfare, as long ago as the 1960s.

Many are forecasting that Texas will follow California in demographic trends, namely Hispanic population growth.

One thing that no one seems to be talking about though is the conservatism of Texas Hispanics.

I suspect Hispanic Texans are more conservative than Hispanic Californians.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hispanic Texans voted for barack in lower numbers compared to Hispanic Californians.

Texas attracts conservative people, and this may include conservative Hispanics.

With millions of illegals walking into Texas, your big worry is California. LOL

Keep it up. Take your eyes off the real problem Give us a call in California in a decade when you’re just like us.

How do you think California got this way? Federal inaction on illegal immigration hit us first, as our border were breached in mass. Now it’s your turn.

We’ll see how this turns out for you with federal dollars and growing state programs out of self-defense gang up on those who truly want this to stop.

Good luck.

Apparently their illegals aren’t like our illegals.

Actually they aren't, and they are not moving into the same receptive liberal greenhouse that California is and was, and Texas and California already have the same exact percentage of Hispanics.

I don't know why you guys seem to think that Texas isn't on the same border as California.

Then Ansel, guess what, you have the same damned problem we do. You’re schools are overrun by the children of illegals. Some of your schools are 90% the children of illegal immigrants. They kids state and federal tax dollars. Their parents are a drain on the system.

As these segments grow, guess who they vote for. This will soon be out of your hands.

Your comments about segments are just a hoot. Do you have any idea how many off the book people we have in California?

Yes it’s the same border, but certain sections of the border are favored for illegal crossings. For many years it was California. Then it moved to Arizona and New Mexico. Now Texas seems to be the favored spot.

Enjoy my friend. Watch as vast regions of your area turn into Mexico. It’s going to happen. Until there is enforcement, this segment will explode.

As it does, guess which direction your self-governing body goes.

You are comparing apples to oranges and drawing a straight line, Texas and California are’t the same, and never have been.

Texas lives and passes laws and controls it’s culture and education system as though it does have a choice, and it shows in the effect that immigration has been allowed to have on the two different states.

California and Texas had two different base populations when immigration exploded on them, even when voting republican, California was famous for being socially liberal and not socially conservative or Evangelical.

That is why they are not both blue already.

So Texas doesn’t allow the children of illegal immigrants to attend school. Wow. How did you get away with that? How did you get the federal government to back off enforced attendance for matching federal funds?

How did you get the federal government to suspend their programs for housing, health care, and aid to families with dependent children?

How did your hospitals avoid having to eat the costs of their emergency room and general care costs for illegal immigrants?

Do you realize how much of this is out of your state’s hands? This is taking place, and you don’t even know it.

The problem with your ignoring the facts is, Texas is a clearly a red state, and California’s natural liberalism made it a pushover for turning blue.

Until you look at how the two states can have the same percentage of Hispanics, and be so totally different, by looking back into who the core population is then you won’t be able to understand why Texas and California are so opposite in 2014.

Fifty years ago California was famous for it’s social liberalism and being moderate, Texas was famous for it’s social conservatism and being right wing, and after 50 years of the two different populations dealing with immigration problems from Mexico, that difference explains a lot.
