Hamas Intensifies Barrage as Israel Agrees to 4-Hour Ceasefire

The Israeli government has agreed to a temporary humanitarian ceasefire starting at 15:00 today (Wednesday).

"The IDF (army) has authorized a temporary window in the Gaza Strip. The window will commence today between 15:00-19:00 (1200 - 1600 GMT)," it said.

But the lull would not apply in areas where ground troops were "currently operating", it said.

The four-hour ceasefire was declared as the Security Cabinet meets at IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv to discuss whether to expand or end Operation Protective Edge, after 23 days of fighting in Gaza.

It comes as the IDF has stepped up its operations against Islamist terrorists, launching a fresh offensive into more densely-populated regions of northern and central Gaza to root-out rocket-launchers and "terror tunnels" into Israel.

At roughly the same time as the temporary truce was announced terrorists fired a salvo of rockets at communities in southern Israel. The Iron Dome intercepted two rockets over Israeli population centers, while others struck in open areas.

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri officially rejected the ceasefire shortly thereafter, according to Yediot Aharonot, as “meaningless, since it doesn’t include the hot areas on the border of the Gaza Strip,” and that Israel's participation is a "media ploy."

Meanwhile, sources inside Gaza have reported heavy exchanges of fire in Khan Younis, with Hamas suffering undisclosed but reportedly "heavy" number of casualties in the fighting. Hundreds of Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters have been killed since the start of the operation.

Four IDF soldiers received treatment under fire, after being lightly wounded...

Soldiers from the Givati infantry brigade together with IDF Engineers destroyed several more "terror tunnels" from Gaza into Israel this morning. IDF forces also located several additional tunnels on Wednesday; in one incident soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade killed two terrorists as they emerged from a tunnel.

The need 4 hours to get the nukes primed and ready. I’m sure BiBi has jet fighters ready to scramble when the violate the order.

There can be no ceasefire or “HUDNA” in Arabic. No mercy, no remorse, no let up just death and virgins for the Shahids (Martyrs). Time is long overdue to take out the trash already...

The need 4 hours to get the nukes primed and ready.

That is not their plan. Hamas is like cancer. You need to kill the cancer while trying to keep from killing surrounding tissue. Otherwise the patient dies.

Just like we knew it would.

But I’m betting that he still clings to the idea that it will work,

otherwise the whole leftist worldview collapses.

Looks like self propelled howitzer. (Big gun on tank chassis, meant to fire from fixed position, may not even have enclosed turret, although some do)

http://www.timesofisrael.com/why-netanyahu-doesnt-want-to-go-all-the-way/

So why, from a prime minister clear-eyed about the danger Hamas poses to Israel, and urged by his right-wing base to approve more intensive military action, this manifest disinclination to send the IDF “all the way”?

One possible explanation: He believes that for all Hamas’s swaggering, it is in real trouble — not militarily, where its key capacity has not been significantly harmed, but in terms of its credibility in Gaza and thus its likely standing when the guns fall silent. That Gazans loathe Israel is a given. But might they also increasingly loathe Hamas for bringing Israel’s military force down upon them? And might a weakened Hamas be forced to accept the return of Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority to Gaza, with the possibility of the “sustained calm” for Israel that Netanyahu set as his opening objective for this conflict?

Another possible consideration: He knows how heavy the IDF losses will be in a full-scale ground offensive. Israel enjoys air supremacy over Gaza. On the ground, things are very different. Israel lost five soldiers on Monday who were killed by Hamas gunmen emerging from a tunnel the IDF had identified, partially demolished, and thought it had secured. Even in those most favorable of conceivable circumstances, the infiltrators fatally surprised the army. Deep in Gaza, Hamas enjoys a home field advantage. Its killers are waiting. The IDF is a highly motivated, well-trained and well-equipped fighting force. Hamas’s home advantage notwithstanding, Israel’s ground troops are certain to kill many more of the enemy’s gunmen than they lose. But be the ratio 5:1, 10:1, or 20:1, Israel will bleed, and quite apart from his own anguish at such a prospect, the prime minister may be concerned that the public mood will turn radically before Hamas is defeated.

tactical neutron

Israel has a good case and arguement to use nuclear devices, however, I think they can get away with using them in an engineering function. If you want to cause mass death and destruction, play with the nuke yield simulator at the bottom of my post.

The best way to deal with subterranian engineered structures is with low yield nuclear weapons:

It is actually one of the safest uses of nuclear devices, actually it is engineering, basically a way to destroy underground structures with almost ZERO surface radiation (plus you create a nice, deep, nuclear-engineered ditch).

The United States experimented with using twenty (20) nuclear weapons to build a trench through Nicaragua making a BIGGER Panama Canal. They also wanted to use Peaceful Nuclear Explosions (PNEs) to build an artificial bay on the North slope of, AK. See: Operation Plowshares. But I digress.

Just look at the photos from Nevada. If they were all in a line, it would be a perfect, man made barrier:

The Isreaelis have all that they need:

1) Acceptable use CAUSE for using "special weapons",
2) Nuclear weapons,
3) A 3km buffer to limit civilian casualties,
4) An urgent need to collapse the tunnels,
5) Finally, it sends a message to the rest of the Mud-slime world (especially Iran) that they are NOT afraid to use nuclear weapons (albiet, in a scientific, controlled, engineering sense):

If you want to entertain the thought of using small, tactical nuclear weapons, use THIS LINK TO EXPLODE YOUR OWN NUKE OVER GAZA

Enjoy!

I think your #5 is the biggest deal - they think/know that Israel is afraid of what the world will say/think/do if they use nukes.

I say a low yield neutron bomb would send a hefty message of don’t mess with us...
