Not good. Quarantine is the only way. Those nations have to be CLOSED for the duration. I suppose you can go in, but you cannot leave. This should have been done already and I object to them bringing that American to Emory too.

Sorry, I don’t want to get Ebola just so you could die at home.

Am I heartless? More and more each day.

I think the medical faculty at Emory should be held personally responsible if this gets away from them.

Like they’d do in China.

21 day incubation, and another, what, 10 to 15 days at a 90 percent mortality?

Based on the reports on HOW MANY are leaving just for treatment, it appears several countries are getting serious about studying it. There seems to be no shortage of foreign citizens of the US and EU countries that need to be ‘brought home’ for treatment.

In Atlanta, especially.

The graph I saw on FR this AM on deaths v identified cases indicates that it is already an exponential function.

This isn’t traditional Ebola.

Let’s see what the death count is in five more days. I predict that reporting out of Africa is going to be much more difficult coming out of this weekend.

Per twitchy there was a scare in NYC today, some body who flew in from Africa (and boy were his arms tired!) was taken to Bellevue for examination.

Reportedly OK at this time.

It won’t take much to start a panic.

Travel from these countries must be ended immediately. Like, tomorrow morning at 9 am.

Look, if that’s an over reaction, still what’s the harm?

That someone can’t go on vacation, or to a business meeting, or a funeral, or a wedding or enroll in school?

Please - you are all going to have to stay put at this time.

Hopefully this will burn itself out very shortly.

If not, well....what can I say? Obama’s fault.

It would take 60 days to burn out completely if you shut Africa down right now. If you shut down US and EU, it would take about 45 days, depending on the number of undisclosed new cases in the US.

CDC made an announcement today about El Paso, which was stupid on their part.

Were I a governor, I’d be spinning up my emergency response people and reviewing what would need to be done to shut their own borders.

I KNOW I’d be calling up some reserve state police types and posting them in every hospital. I’d be calling up my national guard reservists up to do their monthlies by patrolling clinics.

I’d put every registered health care professional in the state on notice to report symptoms.

I’d have DDT suppliers on standby in case you find out this is mosquito, lice, or flea borne.

I’d do this now, because now we know it’s here. It’s official. They’ve announced they’ve actually flown somebody in already.

You don’t monkey with something like an aerosolized version of Ebola virus.

I agree it was stupid. But was it stupid-stupid, or was it like Freudian-stupid, if you get my meaning?

I can just picture a Congolese macaque saying "I resent that remark"

But there may be hope:

Ebola Treatment Works In Monkeys, Even After Symptoms Appear

All conjecture at this point.

The antidote to panic is transparency. The record for the government on that is pretty poor.

If it roots here in the US, look out.

We must redouble our prayers for these brave souls. Today’s report on them is not good.

Dr. Brantly reminds me of St. Damien the Leper.
