Ted Cruz Proves Why He’s Still the Most Hated Man in Congress
The New Republic ^ | 07/31/2014 | Danny Vinik

You may not have heard much from Senator Ted Cruz lately, but on Thursday, he came back with a force in blowing up House Republicans’ bill to address the border crisis. Make no mistake, House Speaker John Boehner—and the rest of the Republican establishment—still have a big Ted Cruz problem. And it’s only going to get bigger as the 2016 presidential election approaches.

As it stands now, Cruz has successfully persuaded a block of House Republicans to vote against the House GOP’s border bill, forcing Boehner to pull the legislation from the docket. The situation is still fluid. The House GOP had an emergency meeting this afternoon and a few members have said that they'll stay in session until they vote on the bill. While the next steps are unclear at the moment, what is clear is that Cruz played an integral part in Thursday's events.

This was yet another embarrassing moment for Boehner, new Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and new Majority Whip Steve Scalise. The GOP leadership had tried everything to convince a core group of right wingers to vote for the bill. They reduced the additional funding in it from $1.5 billion to $659 million and added a separate vote to repeal Obama’s 2012 executive action that allowed young undocumented immigrants to stay and work in the U.S. legally, which is officially called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

He may be hated in Congress, but that just makes Conservatives love him even more.

In May, Scalise passed the 6 year benchmark in Congress. It is my personal adage that after 6 years in DC, most of the good members start to spoil. Inevitably, those that get assimilated into the leadership spoil the fastest, if they were ever good to begin with.

I thought so too. But he really gets only a c+ according to conservative websites. I called him about the illegal bill. I don’t know how he voted as yet. But he better vote with his constituents or he will be out a job with Mary Landrieu!!! That I can promise!

Congress has an approval rating in the single digits, or so. Somewhere in the neighborhood of that of wild motorcycle gangs.

We all know to be on their bad list is the opposite.

It’s like a MOH of sorts.

It is not Cruz but the Rep conservatives who refuse to sign a bad bill. The facts speak for themselves. Blaming or crediting Cruz misses the point.

I think it shows the two party system.

Cruz and the Nation Destroyers.

Jeff Sessions is the real force on this issue. I am glad Cruz is joining him.

Some House member, of course, has to be the force. It’s the House. Cruz certainly can’t get anything across to the Senate.

He shouldn’t have so much trouble in the republican House, but we all know it’s a one party system, or, now a two party system, Cruz and the Nation Destroyers.

Sessions, and that’s Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee, join him. As the others test the water, let’s pray it’s either fine, or that they just swim with expertise, and bring proper survival gear and use it appropriately.

Mixing metaphors, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

the Constitution does not forbid a sitting US Senator from being selected House Speaker.

Imagine a world in which Senator Cruz also runs the House?

Would be better than Ted being POTUS for us Conservatives

Scalise should tread carefully. He goes full metal amnesty, we go full Dave Brat on his keister.
