Tea Party out-muscles Boehner on border-security funding

A bill to fund border security blew up in House Speaker John Boehner's face on Thursday, leaving Republicans in disarray and struggling to reconcile Tea Party demands with the need to deal with a humanitarian crisis on the southwestern border with Mexico.

Tea Party-backed Senator Ted Cruz of Texas had his fingerprints all over Thursday's debacle for Boehner. Cruz, a potential 2016 presidential contender, had lobbied his House Republican colleagues to reject the legislation on the grounds that it was too timid.

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski tried to contrast her party's approach to that of Republicans when, during Thursday's floor debate, she said she had spoken to a 15-year-old girl whose parents were killed in gang violence in Honduras.

"You're going to send her back?" Mikulski asked.

Congress doing “nothing” will not secure the border. Congress passing a 3.7 billion bill will not secure the border.
Congress passing a 50 billion bill will not secure the border.

This is not a failure of the Congress or the GOP. It’s a deliberate act by Obama, for which the MSM will, of course, blame Conservatives.

The crisis is not immigration, the crisis is our government. It must be replaced if the nation is to survive.

Every American better get this through their heads, pronto.

I called Mo Brooks (Al 5th) today and, even though he is one of the good guys, I gave his receptionist an earful. Told her I expected Brooks to be calling for Boehner’s resignation as SOTH.

Boehner is sabotaging the conservatives in the House..

The text of Blackburn’s bill, however, was quietly changed on Wednesday night to only prohibit the government from issuing “guidance, memorandums, policies, or other similar instruments” relating to the initiative...”

In other words: “BOHICA America”.

Thank God for the Tea Party to Stand up to and provide some opposition to the Obama enablers, complicit in the destruction of our country.

You’re going to send her back?” Mikulski asked. You are damned right we are.

I'd ask the sinator at what point would she draw the line?

When is enough enough?

There are thousands, millions, around the world in dire straits. Do we let them all in??

You summed it up in 5 sentences and still some people can’t understand it.

This was planned as far back as 2011, Obama isn’t about to stop it.

yes, Babs, we're going to send her back, to her own country, where her own government can best take care of her special needs with their own government programs. We have 15-yo's in America who's parents have been killed by "gang violence" too. When was the last time Mikulski made that an issue?

Our republic suffers when the media doesn't do its job.

Correction: Their job is the destruction of the Republic and the Constitution and they are doing it well.

Or, even worse - they could send them to any typical left wing hellhole in a Detroit/Chicago, etc...

The leftist Democrats and their media NEVER miss an opportunity to blame something on Ted Cruz.

It was Jeff Sessions (AL) who actually caused the (good) fail in the House, even though Cruz did have a private meeting with Pubs on Wednesday.

If the House passes some bill on this, Reid and his fellow thugs will alter it and add it to that massive “comprehensive” bill (that Rubio and McCain helped to craft) and send it back to the House to put it in Conference.

The House should not pass ANY related bill to the Senate at this time.

The bill gives the President the authority to send the guard to the border if he wants to. We all know he will never do it.
*********************************
The POTUS has a Constitutional duty to secure and defend our borders! There is no need for a new bill to “permit” POTUS to assign the NG to the border.

... how venal and partisan the press was to Gen. Sherman even then, 150 years ago.
**************************
It was probably Yankee press and they liked that Sherman was doing the slash/burn/kill thing in the deep South. He commanded his army to burn cities, plantations, destroy courthouse and bank records. ....That opened the door for the f’ing carpetbaggers to go South and claim properties because the white AND black owners could no longer prove their ownership. F Sherman!

“The POTUS has a Constitutional duty to secure and defend our borders! There is no need for a new bill to “permit” POTUS to assign the NG to the border.”

This is true but the point of my comment is that the GOP was being disingenuous when they sent Rep Salmon out on TV saying their bill would sent the National Guard to the border when in fact it does no such thing. It merely says they will provide funds for it if the President so chooses.

So the GOP bill which fortunately failed to pass the House was just another watered down cave in to Barack Obama. The GOP leadership has no intention of securing the border. If it was not for guys like Cruz, Sessions, Gohmert, Lee, Paul etc you would not be able to differentiate between the GOP and the Dems.

Hey wait a minute! All I've heard for the past several months, with a couple of exceptions, is that the Tea Party has been destroyed by GOPe.

It’s called “wishful thinking”. :-) If illustrated, you would see an ostrich with GOPe written on it, head buried in the sand.

Unfortunately, I see this as only a short-term victory. Amnesty will come in the lame duck session, and Boehner will not run for Speaker again.

Wouldn't surprise me if he retires and joins the Chamber of Commerce in a senior role.
