“CDC: Smallpox found in NIH storage room is alive”

(CNN) — “At least two of the vials employees at the National Institutes of Health found in an unused storage room earlier this month contain viable samples of the deadly smallpox virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.”

“Employees found six forgotten vials”

Anyone feel assured when they say there will be no accidents with this patient?

How hard would it be for the IS or Hamas people to fly down to western Africa and get the illness? Even if they had to infect themselves? Then fly to Mexico-—take the train and inflect a whole bunch of folks and kids? (they don’t care about children) as they cross the border—then get to a big city and start infecting folks—maybe even have jihadists meet them—get the illness and drive all over—New Orleans? St. Louis? Atlanta? How long before America would be brought to her knees by panic, sickness, and fear?

Emory is top-notch. Granted they probably can’t know every contingency possible, but they at least won’t be making any sloppy mistakes.

My big concern is something else. If they wanted to treat the patient and keep the country safe, they would have flown all the medical equipment they wanted over to Africa and treated the patient there. But they want an ebola patient here. Why do they want an ebola patient here, away from the eyes of other governments and NGOs that are in Africa?

I am sure the CDC has samples already, but I can't help think that our less than trustworthy government is less interested in a cure than getting samples and data for less noble purposes.

His caregivers will go from Christian/charity oriented to secular/academic.

No good will come of this.

As long as human beings are involved, mistakes will be made and it won’t matter how sloppy or neat they are when people start dying needlessly. It’s already risky enough without deliberately importing a deadly disease.

You point our a very legitimate concern. And very troubling questions as well.

This a good example of why character matters when it comes to our elected officials.

Agreed, not to mention that his doctors, nurses, etc, have - shall we say? - skin in the game.

Well, if you thought of it, I am sure someone else has too. The ultimate germ warfare. What surprises me, is that it hasn't happened already. If not ebola, then something else.

Right.

Wishing my sister in law didn’t work at Egleston right now...just a bit too close for comfort.

I agree, I’m just saying there are worse places at which they could be risking this than Emory.

Question:

Why is our idiot government bringing Ebola here?

Answer:

Because they aren’t idiots, they are Evil, and they want it here, so here it will be.

So if the doctor recovers he can spread the virus via sexual contact for over 7 weeks? I wonder if this doctor will become another footnote in America’s history like Typhoid Mary was in the past. Ebola Edie or something.

Well I don’t have to worry, the government under Obama never screws up so they tell me.

Atlanta has one of the most heavily traveled airports in the country. One mistake and you would have a country wide distribution network already in place. That’s all it takes — one little slip up.
