Sir Cedric Hardwicke as Henry Cabot Lodge. That would be something to see.

It’s a great movie; but it makes a pitch for “one-world”,
which was a common theme of the establishment during World War II.

(Wonder what ever came of that idea...?)

Glenn Beck: “I hate this guy.” (always in reference to Woody Wilson)

As always, Bosley Crowther gets it wrong. The Roger Ebert of his day?

Mr. Knox looks quite a bit like Wilson.

And probably as stiff as a board as was the original.

I think that’s what the reviewer means by “marked by a fine reserve.”

Dreadful, dreadful movie. I just saw it about a month ago...again. Now Alexander Knox did give good performances but this isn’t one of them. It was a box-office disaster as I remember and Daryl Zanuck couldn’t get over that.

The movie flopped just like the original internationalist Wilson.

Yes, I knew that, too. It was a pet project of Daryl Zanuck. You can fool some of the audiences some of the time...

1944 film was a box-office disaster.

(from IMDB):

Budget:
$4,000,000 (estimated)
Gross:
$2,000,000 (USA)

I watched it as well. I didn’t like the way they made it look like no big deal that his wife took over the country while he was incapacitated. But the movie wasn’t about controversy.

It’s just such a bore. He pontificates throughout the whole movie. And...um...no mention that he was the biggest raaaaaaaaaacist on the face of the earth.
