Twelve states filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration on Friday seeking to block an Environmental Protection Agency proposal to regulate coal-fired power plants in an effort to stem climate change.
The plaintiffs are led by West Virginia and include states that are home to some of the largest producers of coal and consumers of coal-fired electricity.
The suit was filed in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The other plaintiffs are Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Wyoming.
The E.P.A. rule, announced by President Obama on June 2, is aimed at slashing carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, the nation’s largest source of planet-warming pollution. Under the rule, each state would have to design and submit a plan to cut carbon pollution, which must then be approved by the E.P.A.
The states’ lawsuit contends that the E.P.A. lacks legal authority in the matter.

I don’t think we mine it in Kansas but we burn it. Lots of coal trains running through Olathe heading to Wolf Creek. I don’t know where it comes from.

I think the real problem is not carbon. Many elements are in the atmosphere that create compounds the alarmists worry about: CO2, CO, SO2, SO4, NO2, etc. but does anyone else see the common denominator here? It’s oxygen! That’s right. We need to tax oxygen. That’s the one that’s creating all the problems!
Or West Virginia. But I think the state, like PA, is overrun with Democrats.

...not to mention any state with a coal fired power plant, and not to mention a citizenry unwilling to see their electricity prices skyrocket.
The insanity at the Federal level is so far beyond the “shot heard round the world” that we must still be wrapped up in yesteryear.

I thought Wolf Creek was a nuke plant.
What are the letters on the coal cars? Most likely they are hauling Wyoming coal to the plants in Arkansas, East Texas and Louisiana.
Are the numbers AEPX, CUX, WTUX, WFEX? These are indications of which company is using the coal.

I have at least 10 coal fired generating plants within 50 miles of me along the Ohio river. Would have been great to have a little global warming around here last winter. With the scrubbers already installed in them I have zero problem with pollution from them either.

I read it several times, just couldn’t believe that PA wasn’t in there. I guess Coal ain’t King there any more.
