An American doctor stricken by Ebola in West Africa arrived home for treatment in Atlanta on Saturday, and U.S. government officials are urging the public to remain confident in the health-care system’s ability to keep the deadly disease isolated.
A charity organization, Samaritan’s Purse, said two Americans in serious condition with the disease were being evacuated: Kent Brantly, a Fort Worth doctor who had been treating Ebola victims in Liberia, and Nancy Writebol, a missionary from Charlotte.
Brantly and Writebol have been hospitalized in serious condition in Monrovia, the Liberian capital. Brantly was brought back to the United States first, in a specially equipped “air ambulance” aircraft that landed Saturday at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, in the northwest Atlanta suburbs, according to news reports.

I totally agree...such is the danger when you go to a 3rd world country as a missionary. They willingly went and exposed themselves to danger. It is not incumbent upon us to brink them back here for treatment and risk the potential hazards associated with it.
If he becomes patient zero for an outbreak in this hemisphere he will be remembered for none of the good things he’s done.
He will be remembered as the instigator of an outbreak.
And his family won’t be safe anywhere in this country.

God bless all of them who provide relief to the dying in Christs name. He is not a nutcase but a hero and potentially a martyr. His reward will be huge
That said, I find it a little difficult that selfless individuals like this physician would chose to bring this virus to a totally naive population. I hope he survives and we get to hear his reasoning

Missionaries go where they are called by God. They don’t go where it is safe, or fun, or reasonable by the the standards of a 21st century American.
Most Christians used to know this - it is pretty basic stuff. Again, if this simple Christian concept eludes you, then you really, really need to re-examine your doctrine, and who you have been listening to on Sundays.
Is the debate over where or if to treat the guy legit? Sure. But asking a Christian who is called to a dangerous mission field to find somewhere safer? That is actually an attempt to thwart God, and you’ll have to answer for it some day. Good luck on that.
Kent and Nancy are being set up to be scapegoats for the inevitable outbreak in this hemisphere.

Christ sacrificed his life. These missionaries should have sacrificed their lives, instead of putting everyone else at risk. That is the Christian thing to do. Now, they are being selfish, and running home for treatment.
Point well taken. I understand that extreme precautions are being taken at the hospital. I am confident that the doctor himself would not have agreed to come back unless he was confident that the U.S. population was safe from the risk of possible transmission.

Missionaries have their kids with them in places that make America suburbanites nervous. Hygiene is bad. Disease happens.
It is what they are called to do. Again, if you don’t know this, then your American sense if motherhood has trumped your faith, and you have missed some pretty basic stuff in your faith.
Gitmo is not set up for infectious diseases like Emery is. If my family were sick overseas, I would want them back on US soil. Funny that we can’t get that Marine in Mexico back.
IIRC the map showed regional quarantine centers, not high-level containment centers for active cases.

Either the author is an idiot or the sound bites the msm are given are confusing for a reason. If all the treatment these two Americans were getting was hydration then there was NO reason to bring them to the US. Absolutely no reason.

If I were a patient at Emory I would definitely be checking myself out and calling family for a ride home.

We can in fact debate whether their return is reasonable. That’s fine.
Maybe they will die like Christ. You are pretty ok with that, as long as they do it far away, and off your radar screen. Christian death and sacrifice is all so messy and 1st century, isn’t it?

Have you not been reading the articles? Treatment is nothing but keeping them hydrated and as comfortable as possible. It has to run its course until the patient recovers or dies. Now, please tell me how brining them here is helping them one bit. It's certainly not helping to keep it contained. It's certainly not helping to keep it out of the US. It's certainly not helping with a mistake and letting them infect others.
