Former White House Press Secretary James Brady, who was famously shot during the attempt on then-President Ronald Reagan's life in 1981, has died. He was 73.

"Jim touched the lives of so many and has been a wonderful husband, father, friend and role model," his family said in a statement. "We are enormously proud of Jim's remarkable accomplishments - before he was shot on the fateful day in 1981 while serving at the side of President Ronald Reagan and in the days, months and years that followed. Jim Brady's zest for life was apparent to all who knew him, and despite his injuries and the pain he endured every day, he used his humor, wit and charm to bring smiles to others and make the world a better place."

Brady was confined to a wheelchair after being shot and went on to become a leading voice for gun control.

In 1993, President Bill Clinton signed the Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act into law.

Reagan was also shot and almost died, but recovered to be a great president. He opposed gun control.

Brady was shot and suffered brain damage. He supported gun control.

Draw your own conclusions.

You think that Hinckley wanted a “do over” once he found out about Jodie Foster’s orientation?

I suppose I’m not enough of a Christian. No empathy for someone who did so much to destroy this country.

So he died as a result of gun violence, even if it took over 30 years.

and went on to become a leading voice for gun control

should read "and went on to be wheeled out by his wife, who remains a voice for gun control"

he had no voice - he was a tool to her agenda

I wonder who will get his privately owned machine gun collection? It must be worth a small fortune and it is transferable to private buyers.

James Brady and his wife led a relentless thirty year jihad to disarm law abiding citizens, not criminals, so it’s difficult to muster up much sympathy here.

I always got the impression it wasn’t him but his nutcase wife.

Just like with Gabby Giffords. There’s no telling how much she’s even cognizant of gun control anymore, let alone competant to make any sort of conclusion about it.

Does he really have a machine gun collection? I’ve never head about that.

Me too. James was used as a prop on wheels.

...it’s not un-Christian to show no empathy...to dance on someone’s grave...that would be un-Christian...

...your tagline...is it ‘happily do we enjoy conquering’...?

First of all – Rest in Peace, and prayers for his family.

That being said, stand by for the inevitable onslaught from the Gun Grabbers for a push to get what they can in the way of eviscerating our Commonsense Civil Rights in his ‘honor’.

Just as they used Teddy Kennedy’s death to push Obamacare (IIRC).

The cadres of the nation’s socialist left never miss a trick in Forwarding their anti-freedom agenda.

I believe that the gun control fight was more Brady’s wife soap box than his.

And the 2nd amendment outlives another mortal that thought they had the power of a god over our liberty.
