Chris McDaniel Formally Becomes the Defeated Tea Party Candidate That Won't Go Away

Tea Party hopeful Chris McDaniel lost his Republican primary challenge to six-term Sen. Thad Cochran in Mississippi on June 24. Cochran beat him by about 7,700 votes. On July 7, the state's Republican Party certified Cochran's victory.

Six weeks after the run-off election, McDaniel is having a tough time moving on.

On Monday, McDaniel, a state senator, announced he was formally challenging the results and asking the Mississippi Republican executive committee to declare him the party's nominee in the November general election.

"Justice has no timetable, and yet here we stand," McDaniel, 42, told reporters assembled at a press conference outside his headquarters in Jackson that was somewhat ominously interrupted by thunderclaps and a downpour. "They asked us to put up or shut up, and yet here are. Here we are with the evidence."

Since shortly after the run-off, McDaniel and his team have alleged that Cochran and his "race-baiting" allies stole the election by turning out Democrats who voted illegally in both the Democratic primary and the Republican run-off. The Cochran campaign did appeal to the largely Democratic population of African American voters in the state who were eligible to vote in the G.O.P. run-off if they had not earlier voted in their own party's primary.

Nothing like a headline that is an editorial.

I fail to see why producing evidence of illegal double voting rises to the level of being a sore loser. I wish more candidates would challenge these type of shenanigans.

This hack writer has not even heard the evidence. Yet he makes an
editorial assumption. I guess for him, election fraud is nothing to be
concerned about.

Just once it would be heartening to see the GOP do the right thing and declare Chris McDaniel the rightful winner of the Mississippi Republican Party.

It would energize the national conservative base for the November elections

Tea Party hopeful Chris McDaniel lost his Republican primary challenge to six-term Sen. Thad Cochran in Mississippi on June 24. Cochran beat him by about 7,700 votes. On July 7, the state's Republican Party certified Cochran's victory.

All true, and in finest slimy journalistic fashion, completely ignores the entire point, quite deliberately I might add. McDaniel, with ample evidence, alleges a fraudulent election, organized and executed by the very people charged with conducting the election. This clown paints him as a sore loser who, together with the rest of his tea party crazy cousins just came seem to get along with the rest of polite society. Only, it turns out that they are not quite so polite. While sipping mint juleps under the magnolias, they plotted and schemed and conducted criminal fraud to steal an election. Since it turned out the way that the media wished, they choose to portray McDaniel as some poor, confused little wannabe who just can't manage to win a simple primary election. This is how evil plays out.

Exactly. none of us can assume anything. Wait for the evidence to come out. But I do think McDaniel has made one strategic mistake ... he asked only to be declared the winner and not also, in the alternative, a new election. I just don’t see them doing that.

But ... I haven’t seen the evidence either. ; )

Apparently, we’re expected to shut up and support the backstabbers.

Truth be known the GOP(e) despises us more than liberals.

Paybacks are hell though.

Good for him. I wish him every success.

I admire Allen West, but I believed he stopped early. I hope that McDaniel is able to pursue this to victory.
