FREETOWN/MONROVIA (Reuters) - Hundreds of troops deployed in Sierra Leone and Liberia on Monday to quarantine communities hit by the deadly Ebola virus, as the death toll from the worst-ever outbreak reached 887 and three new cases were reported in Nigeria.
With healthcare systems in the West Africa nations overrun by the epidemic, the African Development Bank and World Bank said they would immediately disburse $260 million to the three countries worst affected - Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.
The World Health Organization, which warned last week of catastrophic consequences if the disease were not controlled, reported 61 new deaths in the two days to Aug. 1 as the disease continues to spread.
The outbreak began in February in the forests of Guinea. The toll there continues to rise, but the epicenter has since shifted to neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Russia was working on airborne Ebola at one time?
A military attack on Ebola. Do they think it’s a country?
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Some African dictators gonna be making out like bandits?
People in the infected zones all want to get out, if they have any sense, and the job of the troops is to keep them quarantined.
It may have been the movie ‘Outbreak’?, but in one situation the only remedy for an area raddled with Ebola victims was a chute-dropped ‘daisy-cutter’ bomb.
Hopefully this will burn itself out.
Sounds as though distrust of modern medicine and panic are their problems. Superstitious government troops aren’t likely to be of much help. JMO
My guess is that they will be very jittery and a maybe a little trigger happy.
A zombie-like state is the next to last stage of the Ebola virus! This is it boys, biochemical warfare, toe-to-toe with godless zombies. Best of luck to you all ....
“For whatever reason, it is not acting like Ebola has before.”
Yes, too long incubation period seem to be the thing. Also, perhaps a higher survival rate?
What is the cure for an incurable, contagious disease? Is there any cure but quarantine? I think not.
No egress should be permitted from the these countries.
That protocol should have been put in place days, if not weeks ago.
Many of these cultures require that the family wash and prepare the body for burial, so they contract the disease, but don’t show symptoms for 2 or 3 weeks. Meanwhile the search is on for a drug and/or vaccine. I’ll bet it would really help to provide large amounts of Vitamin C, C complex and pycnogenol. These help strengthen cell walls, maintain the link between cells, enhance the immune response, and detoxify poisons in the body.
Imagine the troops that’ll be required if it were to hit ANY large scale city. People would want to get out. Government already has the power to quarantine anyone they feel may be infected.
Ping...
They need to just burn the bodies in giant pits, as the people seem incapable of avoiding transmission.
ZEBOV (Zaire Ebola virus) has taken down a rather noticeable number of doctors and other medical employees.
