Iraq Airstrikes May Continue for Months, Obama Now Says
New York Times ^ | 08/09/2014 | By MICHAEL D. SHEAR and TIM ARANGO

WASHINGTON — President Obama said on Saturday that the airstrikes and humanitarian assistance drops he ordered last week in Iraq could go on for months, preparing Americans for an extended military presence in the skies there as Iraq’s leaders try to build a new government.

“I don’t think we’re going to solve this problem in weeks,” Mr. Obama told reporters before leaving for a two-week golf-and-beach vacation on Martha’s Vineyard. “This is going to be a long-term project.”

The president repeated his insistence that his administration would not send ground troops back to Iraq after ending an unpopular, decade-long war and withdrawing the last troops in 2011. But two days after emphasizing the limited scope of the mission in a White House address, he pledged that the United States would stand with Iraq if it could form a unified and inclusive government to counter the Sunni militants who threaten its future.

So they can say, as they back away from the “crisis” they’ve themselves have caused: they’ve done everything they can to help. Disgusting and corrupt.

We have somewhere in the area of 10,000 boots in Kosovo. Clinton told us they’d be home by Christmas. Of 1997 IIRC.

So his answer is to include the sunni homicidal maniacs in the Iraqi government

Following the same playbook he did in Kenya with his cousin Odinga in 2006

I was in Bosnia in 1998. Bombing worked there IMO. I firmly believe that there are no problems here on earth that can’t be solved with the application of an appropriate amount of high explosive ordnance. If you failed to solve your problem, you simply failed to use enough.

The idea of starting a fledgling democracy Iraq was not a bad one. Bush did not underestimate the desire of the Iraqi people to be free. He did not anticipate the stupidity of the American people to elect a president who would abandon the Iraqi people to evil islamist terrorists who would behead their children. Perhaps Bush should have considered what the election of a marxist in the USA would do to the little corner of democracy he was trying to establish, particularly in light of his close shave in 2000.

So GWB was correct about the war on terror being a long, protracted battle. Welcome to the show Bammy.

The Kurds opened a way for them, and most of ‘em ducked through it to Syria.

They can’t, this one is OBAMAS NOW.

We should never have left Karzai in charge. We should not have pulled out. The region is too volatile right now. As it always has been. I honestly don’t know if there is any good solution. I suppose Iraq could be split up. But there are all sorts of consequences involved.

No, send about a dozen bombers, loaded with the old neutron bombs. I’m sure we still have a few laying around, if not it wouldn’t be hard to rig a few. No more politics, no more bantering, just do it, get it over with and move on. We could make the world a safer place. ISIS cannot be allowed to run rampant across the middle east. I’m sure even most muslim countries agree. Get rid of them now, before their demonic ideas get the rest of the islamic world to join them.

If we don’t stop them now, we will see them spread and spread, gaining more influence and power. I do not want to see a caliphate formed in my life time.
