But try to understand that suicide is driven by mental illness and addiction. While it is a horrible way to die and it does devestate those that are left behind. I knew someone who took his own life. It is horrible.

RIP Robin Williams.

It is okay to cite a passage or two, even if not complete, it is still complete.

He was a comic genius who could also excel in dramatic roles. One of my favorites was his role in an episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets. He portrayed a husband and father, grieving for his wife, who had been murdered by a would be robber while they were tourists in Baltimore.

He also was a prime example of the doctrine that if your politics are right, liberals will forgive anything you do or say. Throughout most of his comic career, he was relentless in mocking gay men, and sometimes black men. Bill Clinton was another prime example of this.

Just read your post and it made me realize that some posters here on FR just love to flame, which is not good.

For your sake, I pray to the Good God Almighty, you never have to deal someone you love and cherish, who has a depression/and or someone who suicides.

Where, oh where, do I get some of that *omniscience* you so cavalierly dispense?

In the end, only kindness matters.

I actually agree with something that SOB David Axelrod (of all people), tweeted on the subject (they read it on the news last night).

“Let us recognize depression as a life-threatening illness, not a deficiency of character.”

“..Now there’s some sad things known to man
But ain’t too much sadder than
the tears of a clown
When there’s no one around..”

Depression is a horrible thing.

Feel pretty low about this. Always liked his work. I was a kid when “Mork and Mindy”, and I laughed my ass off at that show.

And who could have played Peter Pan better? No one. Jumanji was another madcap movie with Williams, and one of my favorites.

I don’t know his political leanings, and don’t want to. I just remember him as a very funny comic actor, who also had a damned fine dramatic side.

I’ll miss him.

RIP.

After reading your in-depth comments, and seeing some of the flaming that has been going on by those who are into the Bible bigtime, it makes me realize no wonder we who are Christians have become so disliked by American society because of such harsh attitudes.

“...My gut instinct tells me that he finally couldn’t take it any longer, and simply took his own life. ..”

Woof, Dawg Brother...

I get that impression too.

Having dealt with family members with depression, it can put people through mental hell.

Prayers up for his soul, and for the family he left behind.

Not enough of it in the world anymore.

Thanks for that. I am adding your phrase to my list of quotes to remember.

Having dealt with it personally with family members, I can agree. And There’s not many things I’ll ever agree with Axlrod on.

Robin Williams may not have shared your politics, but he also did multiple tours in the Middle East supporting our soldiers. So who was it he hated? The Freeper was being a jerk.

Sad end to his life. Ironic too after he made that movie, can’t remember what it was called, where he followed his wife, who had killed herself, to hell to try to bring her back....one of the darkest movies I have ever seen. Perhaps a foreshadowing to his end.

I liked him as Mork, as Popeye, as an over-the-top genie, as a grown-up Peter Panning, attorney. His stand-up, however, was disgusting. I think this was because he was not happy being himself. His creative spark woke up only when playing somebody else. When he had to just stand there and talk, he only did one flavor, offensive.

“Suicide by asphyxiation....wondering if this was a Carradine kind of scenario.”

One of the late news channels in the Gay Frisco area last night said that he apparently hung himself.
