Ferguson Police Department Implores Protesters To Gather Only During Daylight

The police department in a St. Louis suburb where a man was shot and killed by a police officer is asking protesters to gather only during daylight.

Ferguson has been the site of nightly protests and unrest since 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed during a confrontation with an officer on Saturday.

In a news release issued Wednesday, the department asked that all people who assemble to pray or protest do so in “an organized and respectful” manner and disperse well before evening to ensure the safety of participants and the community.

“The City of Ferguson mourns the loss of Michael Brown’s life that occurred of Michael Brown’s life that occurred this past Saturday,” the statement read. “We understand members of our community, and those nationwide, are grieving with us. We have worked diligently to provide an opportunity for our residents to both grieve and voice frustrations through prayer vigils and peaceful protests.”

The most troubling aspect of this case is that there is so little information being released to the public.

I am troubled by an officer emptying his entire clip into a suspect. A suspect who is reported to have put his hands up in an attempt to surrender...

I have been trying to imagine what circumstances had to transpire for the officer to do this...

I can only imagine that if a struggle for the officer’s gun took place and at one point control of the weapon had been in doubt, then the officer was probably operating on an overload of adrenaline and he may not have even have been aware that he was firing his weapon...

I think that the authorities need to make an attempt to release some information that may help the public at large to make sense of this tragedy. They need to do this sooner, rather than later as the clock is ticking...

I don’t think the problem is the officer having no rights. I think the problem is that the deceased has friends who were eyewitnesses who are talking. The police are saying virtually nothing.

If it were a political campaign, we’d say one candidate is letting the other candidate define him very early in the race.

The police need to speak up and get their fellow officer’s story out there, and especially about what took place at the door/window of the police car and at the time when the deceased is said to fled, the officer pursued, and there were a number of shots.

As it stands, the lack of info being put out by the police is making them look in the wrong.

They released the officer’s name this morning, and the robbery was mentioned again, but little else.

Time for a ‘police desert’ too.

Store owners WITHOUT police protection in Ferguson should to sue the city.

All who pay taxes for our local police department to babysit the black communities should also sue.

It’s wrong.

I don’t pay an ‘average’ power bill - shared with the liberal elite in his mansion - they guy who uses more energy to heat his swimming pool than I use to heat my house.

He pays his power bill - I pay mine.

It should be the same with police protection. Tack the charge onto people’s electric bills or water bills. Charge by city block.

If living near criminals cost money - the black culture’s attitude toward crime will change.

Another unequal distribution to think about:

Property taxes.

Those who consume the most resources aren’t paying property taxes, and those who pay the most in property taxes are not getting services commensurate with their share of the cost.

Police don’t patrol their neighborhoods more, nor do they come to their house faster when needed, nor do the fire departments. And their kids aren’t oosting the school districts any more than those who don’t pay, or pay little, property taxes.
