Posted on 09/02/2014 2:08:21 PM PDT by Brad from Tennessee
Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.
Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.
There are a number of commercial airliners in Libya that are missing, said one official. We found out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.
The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi. . .

Well isn’t this special....
I’m sorry, who was it that decided Qaddafi had to go??
Finally, one he CAN’T BLAME on Bush . . . not that the media would notice.
Great, just great.
Beware any commercial flight with “radio trouble” and/or other identification signaling turned off.
Yes, just speculating - I admit that. Who wouldn’t hesitate to fire on something like that, thinking it could be legit?
(not including MH17)
We came, we saw, he Died........ SARC
What the heck? Are they taking them to Maaco and getting United paint jobs on them? Ground all Libyan air jets until these are recovered or disabled. Duh!
There’s news on the golf course?
If it's not on ABC, it didn't happen.
Maybe they’re aiming for European targets this time...The Vatican? Eiffel Tower? Big Ben?
Missing Libyan Jetliners Raise Fears of Suicide Airliner Attacks on 9/11.
“It’s time for Qaddafi to go.” —BARACK OBAMA, March 3, 2011
Well, if something does happen, we can sure count on the support of folks who trashed our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan non-stop for years.
Perhaps we’ll do what they wanted last time, just let the terrorists have a free shot.
You know it will be our fault too. Our military isn’t all at home, even though 09/11 took place when they were out of the Middle-East.
Should be interesting...
I’m old enough to remember Obama hailing Libya as a success.
So am I. Too bad the MSM won’t call him out on it unlike “ mission accomplished” treatment.
There is s difference between guiding an airliner into a building and taking the full control from takeoff to suicide-crash. If the pilot doesn’t really know what he is doing, he will crash it before he gets off the ground.
I don’t think they could fly non-stop from Libya to North America anyway, that is why they are worrying these planes could be a terror threat in North Africa.
Those that can’t wait until the Saudi Royal family is killed in total, may want to go to school on this. I know it’s a long shot, but I’ll toss it out there anyway.
“What difference does it make?”
I hope Barack reads the news today.
Barak read the news today,
about a journalist who finally made the grade.
He lost his head out on the sands,
he didn’t notice that the sides had changed....
Unfortunately many of the pilots went over to the new regime I imagine.
Airbus and Bombardiar it looks like. These will be time bombs for decades.
Where the F do you hide 13 airliners?
Why are there not USAF fighters dropping bombs on them?
Isnt this what the SEALs train for?
what is the range on those things?
We're buddies right?
RE: Missing Libyan Jetliners Raise Fears of Suicide Airliner Attacks on 9/11
Does anybody remember the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? A Boeing 777 that disappeared out of sight?
“If you look ahead a bit out of the left window, you’ll see ISIS beheading its third Journalist this week, while on the right side is a nice view of Mt. Mohamad, with the ...”
Why the HELL are commercial airliners STILL being flown into Libya?
most of these airbus have a 4000 to 7,500 nautical mile range as I recall.
With some modest modifications of auxiliary tanks they can probably equal the range of any aircraft out there.
The world is a very unsafe place.
some of these were Libyian airlines fleet planes that are now missing from the airport where they were based.
If they’re smart, and like it or not, this bunch is VERY SMART (after all, they outwitted the smartest woman on the planet), they will turn off their transponders and fly in the radar shadow of legitimate airliners, and then, once over Europe break off and do their thing.
Does Europe even use Primary Radar anymore, or are they TOTALLY DEPENDENT on transponders now?
That’s what he gets for trusting him.
Not that he wasn’t a dirtbag.
He was all aglow about him.
the Libyan Airlines fleet is shown on this page:
Their fleet was not the only planes based there that may have gone astray.
great job obambam
The A340 could.
I remember Qaddafi's reaction to 9-11. He seemed shocked at the enormity of it all. And he gave Bush the ability to use Libya in the fight against Iraq. When Obama went after him Qaddafi seemed truly confused that America would stab him in the back after he helped out to take down Hussein. And then Obama takes him down. Now I am no fan of any tyrant, but I sorta felt sorry for Qaddafi.
“some of these were Libyian airlines fleet planes that are now missing from the airport where they were based.”
Thanks, I figured as much. I just WOULD NOT be surprised to see the IDIOTs that run today’s airlines flying into Libya in the middle of a civil war. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
first, we need to consider if this requires a strategy...
I’m not sure what you mean unless you think the A340 would be a good vehicle for an attack on the Royal Family. (not trying to put words in your mouth, just not sure of your point) My point was that some folks thought getting rid of Khadaffy was a wise move. My take was that he had mellowed to the point where he just wanted to get along, and not expose himself to another attack like Reagan’s years ago. Sometimes the unknown is far worse than a known. Now we are subject to possible threat.
It will be very tough for Obama to push this off on Bush.
Now McCain and Graham... not looking too good for those two right about how.
The correct response to this would be to immediately bomb these aircraft and make them unfit for flight. If this isn't done, AQ gets to keep their air force.
What a mess.
You know now that you point that out, the press conference on this I would hate to have to listen to even beyond Obama or I-served-John is McCain.
I think the issue is that some of them are no longer at the airport — they have disappeared to some other location.
You and me both...
If they are missing from the airfield, how do you bomb them?
Free Beacon is a great news source but I would like further confirmation, the details seem sketchy.
On 911, no one else fly and shoot anything in the sky.
No wonder you’re confused.
I was responding to Post #17. Sorry.
“I dont think they could fly non-stop from Libya to North America anyway-——————”
Obama de-stabilized the entire Middle East. He took down every dictator who was keeping peace in his country - from Mubarak to Quaddafi, on and on.
He’s got a strategy alright but it’s not to protect the U.S.
Libya — West Africa — South America — North America
Bring Ebola, too.
No problem Mears.
Good point there too.
