Missing Libyan Jetliners Raise Fears of Suicide Airliner Attacks on 9/11
Washington Free Beacon ^ | September 2, 2014 | By Bill Gertz

Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.

Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

“There are a number of commercial airliners in Libya that are missing,” said one official. “We found out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.”

The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi. . .

Unfortunately many of the pilots went over to the new regime I imagine.

Airbus and Bombardiar it looks like. These will be time bombs for decades.

Where the F do you hide 13 airliners?

Why are there not USAF fighters dropping bombs on them?

Isnt this what the SEALs train for?

Does anybody remember the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? A Boeing 777 that disappeared out of sight?

Why the HELL are commercial airliners STILL being flown into Libya?

most of these airbus have a 4000 to 7,500 nautical mile range as I recall.

With some modest modifications of auxiliary tanks they can probably equal the range of any aircraft out there.

The world is a very unsafe place.

If they’re smart, and like it or not, this bunch is VERY SMART (after all, they outwitted the smartest woman on the planet), they will turn off their transponders and fly in the radar shadow of legitimate airliners, and then, once over Europe break off and do their thing.

Does Europe even use Primary Radar anymore, or are they TOTALLY DEPENDENT on transponders now?

the Libyan Airlines fleet is shown on this page:

Their fleet was not the only planes based there that may have gone astray.

“It’s time for Qaddafi to go.” —BARACK OBAMA, March 3, 2011

I remember Qaddafi's reaction to 9-11. He seemed shocked at the enormity of it all. And he gave Bush the ability to use Libya in the fight against Iraq. When Obama went after him Qaddafi seemed truly confused that America would stab him in the back after he helped out to take down Hussein. And then Obama takes him down. Now I am no fan of any tyrant, but I sorta felt sorry for Qaddafi.

“some of these were Libyian airlines fleet planes that are now missing from the airport where they were based.”

Thanks, I figured as much. I just WOULD NOT be surprised to see the IDIOTs that run today’s airlines flying into Libya in the middle of a civil war. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

I’m not sure what you mean unless you think the A340 would be a good vehicle for an attack on the Royal Family. (not trying to put words in your mouth, just not sure of your point) My point was that some folks thought getting rid of Khadaffy was a wise move. My take was that he had mellowed to the point where he just wanted to get along, and not expose himself to another attack like Reagan’s years ago. Sometimes the unknown is far worse than a known. Now we are subject to possible threat.

It will be very tough for Obama to push this off on Bush.

Now McCain and Graham... not looking too good for those two right about how.

Only one of these aircraft can reach North America. All of them can reach the major cities of Europe.

The correct response to this would be to immediately bomb these aircraft and make them unfit for flight. If this isn't done, AQ gets to keep their air force.

What a mess.

You know now that you point that out, the press conference on this I would hate to have to listen to even beyond Obama or I-served-John is McCain.
