France has said conditions are "not right" for delivery of the first of two Mistral assault navy ships to Russia. President Francois Hollande's office blamed Moscow's recent actions in Ukraine. France had until now resisted pressure to halt the delivery. Correspondents say the EU has struggled to tighten sanctions against Russia, restricting itself to travel bans and asset freezes against individuals.

I would have never thought so many “conservatives” could value amoral, ruthless, military aggression as a sign of strength.

No, we see a modern military unleashed and remember when our leaders had the will to wield power. The leaders we have now think a military is police. Or meals on wheels. Or nation builders.

A modern military power is real good at killing people and demolishing infrastructure. That is why we have a military. Military might backed by the will to turn it loose is the ultimate deterrent. Regan got it. Putin understands that. H.W. Bush understood that.

Sadly, many Americans no longer understand. Weakness invites attack. B52's with a bellyful of thermonuclear hell flying 24 - 7 -365 kept the Soviet Union at bay till it collapsed playing keep up with the Jetsons.

So if a fellow freeper sounds like a Putin supporter, consider the viewpoint. We can admire the tactics from an academic point of view while decrying the evil action.

Interesting observations and comments. I agree with much of what you said. However, Putin is succeeding, and that is the danger. He thinks he’s a new Napoleon or Hitler with better weapons and plans.

Putin’s Russia is a direct threat to the survival of the United States, and if he officially joins Red China in a joint military command system, we are toast.

Obama has “fundamentally changed America” with his key success being in the emasculation of our total military strength and programs. He has also emasculated our seasoned command officers, replacing them with PC asskissers all the way up to and including the head of the JCS.

There are no Secretary of anything re Defense who have any balls or intelligence worth mentioning. Hagel? Mabus? whoever else is caving in to Obie in order to save their worthless careers.

We have no Pattons, no Grants, no Andy Jacksons. We have PC cowards with fruit salads on their chests and fruitcake for brains. I met better ARVN and Cambodia commanders who were real fighters despite overwhelming enemy forces than I have seen leading us in DC.

Our commanders in Afghanistan may be good but they caved into disasterous Rules of Engagement which cost many American and allied lives, instead of standing up and protesting them, up to the point of publicly resigning and stating why these ROE were costing us victory.

Putin will be like Stalin. Fire and execute incompetent or cowardly commanders to the point that he gets his Blitzreig forces in shape with willing COs. Meanwhile we have Hagel, Dempsey and Kerry (the 3 Stooges of our defense system).

Oh how safe I feel today. I was safer in Saigon.

Ukraine sold the Chicoms a rusting, 20-year-old hull that was obsolete the day the keel was laid.

Then they can give any future sales to any other country in Europe, or anyone that borders on Russia, or any country where we still have some leverage. Nope. Putys gonna be stuck with his crappy substandard home grown .

The problem with France isn’t that Putin might have leverage. The problem with France is that it’s filled with French people.

I was just young enough to miss the Viet Nam war. Graduated in 74. The treatment the vets got in that time frame still makes my blood boil. The ban on bombing supply ships was bad enough. The "welcome" many got upon returning home was shameful.

Today a local cop has looser rules of engagement on us than a soldier in Afghanistan. That is nuts.
