Fence expected to extend along 900 kilometers of the northern border; state press agency says it will secure 'against infiltrators and smugglers.'

Saudi Arabia is building a sophisticated fence along its northern border to secure the desert kingdom “against infiltrators and smugglers,” according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The first stage of the border security program was announced by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Friday. The first phase will stretch for 900 kilometers (560 miles) on the country’s northern frontier.

The project includes five layers of fencing, reinforced by watch towers, night-vision cameras and radar. Control complexes have been built in areas stretching from Hafr Al Batin in the northeast to Turaif near the Jordanian border, SPA said.

The project will include eight command and control center, 32 rapid response centers, three rapid intervention squads, 38 back and front gates, 78 monitoring towers, 10 monitoring and surveillance vehicles, 1,450,000 meters of fiber optics networks and 50 radars.

The kingdom expects the fence to cut the "number of infiltrators, drug, arms and cattle smugglers to zero," SPA said.

Aren’t they worried about disturbing the migratory paths of indigenous wildlife?

Maybe we can borrow tech from those advanced Saudis fir building a border fence. We only got to the moon, invented and produced computers and all that goes with, mined oil, figured out refinement, solar, wind and hydropower, mass media, air travel, have the greatest military while having not only the poorest president but an enemy on post, over powered hitler, Hirohito, Stalin, and Mussolini, overcame an addiction to slavery, and I don’t know eggs else off the top of my head, and the Saudis did what? Hired some industrialists and servants from other countries to enable tgem to live in the mid 19th century, and blow up our trade center? Oh they found some oil, made enough money to buy...

Well... Perhaps THEY can show us how to build a fn fence

There is only one explanation. The Saudis are xenophobic, nativist racists.

What ever it is it’d be cheap at twice the price, when you consider 1 in 10 people here is probably here illegally.

I would not be surprised if they hired American contractors to build it.

But what kind of message are the Saudis sending to the ISIS Terrorists with that fence?

Can they afford to build a fence that long?

Have they ever heard of ladders or tunnels? Terrorists will simply climb over, or go under, fences.

What about Saudis that own land on the border? Seems to me that their land integrity is MORE IMPORTANT than the security of Saudi Arabia.

Fences were also used by the Communists (to enclose West Berlin)...what does that say?

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

Don’t they listen to their consultants over there (most of them Jewish, by the way) who tell them that AMNESTY is the ONLY WAY to solve their problems with terrorists.

Simply LEGALIZE the terrorists, show them that rock in Mecca, and they will become peaceful, pro-Saudi people for the rest of their lives.

...and the alternative is much, much, worse. The Royal Family will never win another Martial Law Event without being more “inclusive” and bringing in the terrorists to their family. The only people fighting this is the Camel Party, which are a bunch of NEANDERTHALS that think the best thing to do is keep terrorists out of their country - but we all know MUCH BETTER, and we will STAND UP to those primates and institute a broad Amnesty for all, with Karl El-Jihad-Rove, paying for it.

Gates? Heavily guarded, on the traditional routes? Just like your own checkpoints would have to be for a southern or indeed the much laughed northern fence.

The first phase will stretch for 900 kilometers (560 miles) on the country’s northern frontier.

I wonder how long the second phase will be?
