"India desires a peaceful and stable environment for its development," Modi said, when delivering a speech for the first time as prime minister of India to the annual high-level debate of the UN General Assembly, which entered its fourth day here in New York.
Noting that a country's destiny is linked to its neighborhood, Modi said "That is why my government has placed the highest priority on advancing friendship and cooperation with her neighbors."
"This includes Pakistan." Modi said he is prepared to engage in a serious bilateral dialogue with Pakistan in a peaceful atmosphere, without the shadow of terrorism, to promote their friendship and cooperation.
When commenting on tensions and turmoil that the world is witnessing, Modi said terrorism is taking new shape and new name.
"No country, big or small, in the north or the south, east or west, is free from its threat," said the prime minister, who called on the international community to put aside differences and mount a concerted effort to combat terrorism and extremism.
