Former New York Gov. George Pataki is reportedly considering running for president in 2016, though a former aide says talk of a campaign is premature.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that Pataki is privately weighing whether to enter the wide-open Republican field. The paper says Pataki recently met with Republican donor David Koch.

Pataki was governor from 1995 to 2006 and was mentioned as a potential presidential contender in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

David Catalfamo, a former top Pataki adviser, says it's premature to talk about his former boss running for president. He says Pataki and Koch are friends and often meet.

State Republican Chairman Ed Cox dismissed questions about Pataki's future Tuesday, saying he's focused on this year's elections.

Messages left for Pataki were not returned Tuesday.

Christie, Jeb, Mitt (again) and now Pataki...how many more RINOS can the GOP elite throw against the wall before they find one that sticks?

This is actually a positive development.. remember how the conservative representation in the 2012 primaries was watered down by an overabundance on the stage? Let the RINOs suffer that circumstance in 2016.

This is excellent!! Flood the pool with RINOs and let a conservative win the primaries.

I love it — for once we have a shot at having a primary with one conservative and 5-6 RINO candidates to split the RINO vote.

Works for me. I hope Ted Cruz announces early and that all conservatives get behind him in the primaries.

Rick Santorum can go screw.

Yes, let’s have a SINGLE true constitutional conservative run (and that would be TED CRUZ) against a MULTITUDE of RINOs.

Great, another unelectable RINO. Is Harold Stassen really dead?

Pataki does this every election cycle.

He leaks that he's "thinking of running" so somebody in his unofficial employ can set up another "Pataki Exploratory Committee" and legally accept contributions. It's a way for Pataki to legally sell his influence with NY State and National government and GOP officials.

After a year and a half of collecting money, he "decides" that he's not going to run, then he can convert the donations to his exploratory committee into a political action slush fund, which he can use to take action on the promises he made to the donors.

For a moderate donation to the Pataki exploratory committee, donors can gain access to the political types who can steer hundreds of thousands in tax and regulatory breaks their way.

And it's all perfectly legal, because the politicians write the laws.

I have this hope that we avoid the 2012 pattern where, from month to month, a different candidate led until primary voters (and the establishment) finally settled on.. the “moderate.”

You can bet that the opponents are going to be lined-up behind The Beast early, and they’ll be standing on the sidelines hoping that the GOP primaries are one big entertaining food fight. With this in mind, lining-up behind Cruz sounds like a solid idea.

Pataki is the rino Governor that embedded Clinton’s AWB into permanent state law. It was a stepping stone for little Andy and his Unsafe Act.

The more Rinos the better. Let them play the vote-splitting suicide game conservatives have played the past two Republican presidential primaries.

Unfortunately, unless something changes, we’ll probably have six or more candidates who will be considered conservative.
