Crisis presents opportunity to achieve long-time Western goal

For an administration that prides itself in never letting a crisis go to waste, the Ebola outbreak is seemingly offering the perfect opportunity to achieve a long-time Western goal – to build up a U.S. military presence in Africa in the face of growing Chinese investment and influence on the continent.

Liberia was the only African country willing to host AFRICOM, but the infrastructure made that unworkable. The only thing Liberia has going for it is a HUGE runway at Roberts International. Read somewhere it was a designated emergency landing strip for the Space Shuttle.

When I was there (Liberia, Swaziland and South Africa) a few years ago there were Chinese EVERYWHERE, building roads, running the cell phones.

If you look back at the 1950s or early 1960s, there were books and articles about China's big push into Africa, evidently it is a long term interest.

The Chinese will continue to spend their money on infrastructure that benefits their interests. They won’t waste their time trying to fix the politics that is the real problem with Africa.

I'd imagine the Chicoms likely see building and/or improving infrastructure as both a tactical and strategic plus.

Short term: having infrastructure that works well makes their economic activity more efficient and, assuming they've crunched the numbers, more profitable.

Long term: a population that's had its macro living conditions (roads, comms, water, etc) improved,
concomitant with paying jobs to improve the micro (family) situation, is likely to be much more amenable to adjusting its political environment to keep the gravy train rolling.

In any event, the Chinese are seemingly playing the long game, while this traitorous Øddministration fumbles along with fund raisers, fascism, golf, and circlejerks.

a few years ago there were Chinese EVERYWHERE,.....And why don’t we hand this ebolacluster f**k over to them? Contain it there and let China handle it with an adult policy?

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
