JOHANNESBURG (AP) — International aid organization Doctors Without Borders said that 16 of its staff members have been infected with Ebola and nine of them have died.

Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg Tuesday, the head of Doctors Without Borders in South Africa Sharon Ekambaram said medical workers have received inadequate assistance from the international community.

"Where is WHO Africa? Where is the African Union?" said Ekambaram who worked in Sierra Leone from August to September. "We've all heard their promises in the media but have seen very little on the ground."

Four of the organization's medical workers who had just returned from Sierra Leone and Liberia said they were frustrated, "chasing after the curve of the outbreak," according to Jens Pederson, the aid organization's humanitarian affairs adviser.

Is this the same as MSF? I thought they had better protection.

It seems to me that looking at all the coverage of Ebola.. that it is being mostly spread to and by healthcare workers.

Something the heathcare workers is doing is exposing them to this virus. And until what that exactly is can be determined, I would not treat anyone without a level 4 suit on.

Don’t worry! Obama has pledged the entire population of the United States to fight this battle.

Looks like Doctors Without Borders were using CDC’s recommended policies overseen by Texas Health....

Seriously, why would you enter the danger zone and treat patients without the appropriate gear? Look at those research centers who have little tiny samples of the virus and how they handle the environment. If your regime isn't similar when dealing with a massive 150-200 pound sample of the virus that is excreting virus out of every pore and fluid, you might just be an idiot.

The virus must be infecting people thru an airborne route. This means, any one traveling in an airplane with someone infected with the virus is at risk. This also implies that people are infectious BEFORE 21 days.

They DO have better protection.

In comparison with every other agency treating this disease, this number of cases is miniscule.

It’s a bsl4 disease. MSF treats it using enhanced bsl3 protocols. That’s usually effective. They’re either getting caught up with the sheer number of cases, finding defects in suits due to much greater numbers of those being used, or something is ‘different’ with this particular outbreak and the strain of ebola.

WHat are we doing to protect our soldiers?

That's what scares me the most. It reminds me of the CBR training I had in basic training. We were issued gas masks and told to march into a small barn filled with tear gas and stand at attention until told to take the masks off.............

When are Americans going to receive a report on our 4000 troops sent into the disease area?

So scary for them. Pray for them,

“Lord we ask protection for the soldiers seeking to help the sick and contaminated. Guard them in this assignment, in Jesus name! Blessings for all concerned. Thou can do anything, let us call on God for protection, healing and safety, recovery and containment in Jesus name and for his sake, amen.

Thanks for the info. Any idea of their numbers? If they have 160 people in Sierra Leone then 16 cases would be 10% which isn’t too bad considering the lousy working conditions and high caseload.
