Democratic Senate candidate Kay Hagan skipped tonight's debate in North Carolina

"Facing new reports of corruption and insider deals, Kay Hagan skipped tonight’s North Carolina Senate debate, leaving an empty chair to represent her campaign. After the last debate, America Rising trackers caught Hagan skipping the post-debate press conference because of her inability to answer questions about missing Armed Services hearings on ISIS," claims America Rising.

"This is not an image or video that conveys strength or confidence from Kay Hagan’s campaign 2 weeks out from Election Day."

Is it getting that bad for Hagan now?

I’ve seen some electoral maps indicating that she will win but RCP is showing only a lead well within the margin of error and now with this on top of it......

Sounds like it's panic time for the Rats in NC.Given that Obola lost NC in ‘12 after winning it in ‘08...combined with his approval numbers being in the toilet...it's easy to see why Rats in all but the unabashedly Communist states would be pessimistic.

Keep in mind that RCP’s model only averages the polls
and has no consideration for trends or momentum.

Her advisors believe she has nothing to gain with another debate, the last one led to a decline in polling. It’s within a few percentage points now, so they bailed. They’ve also resorted to SPLC-style fearmongering to scare up the black vote. They’ve been putting flyers under windshields outside black churches with photos of lynchings and rhyming Johnny Cochran-style political slogans.

Awesome! It was a number of years ago myself (Alto, Bari and tenor in high school) but I still play alto, soprano and tenor from time to time. I also acquired a c melody about a year ago that I’ve fixed up and have playable now. Looking for a Bari as we speak (it was the school’so horn) but no luck so far

Agree. I was referring to this map

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/10/20/republicans-chances-of-winning-the-senate-majority-keep-getting-better/

Which seems to fly in the face of RCP averages which put it in the margin of error.. With the shifting away from Hagen and now this step of hers, I can only imagine things will get even better for Tillis

People put a lot more stock in debates than they deserve, but politicians skip them at their peril. It’s a sign of weakness and Tillis will pounce if he has any sense at all. Blacks could care less about any of this, they will only turn out if a well organized effort puts money in their pockets and gets them to the polls, preferable more than once.

Most of us on the NC forum aren't certain that he does. He apparently was a decent state legislator. But, whoever is responsible for coaching him and producing his political ads has bee very timid. He's perceived as one of Karl Rove's candidates. I'll vote for him just so I won't have to hear Hagan screeching anymore.

Agree with your analysis. Could Tillis pretty much say what he wants at this debate. Since Hagen didn’t show up, Tillis should capitalize. He does get a few minutes to make a statement, I believe. Hagen is holding on for dearlife. Too much bad news lately and now she shot herself in the foot with the lynching ads.

It is pretty bad when an empty chair can do a better job than the candidate. Especially an incumbent. NC voters might want to remember that.

It’s being hosted by public television. So, viewership is not that broad, mostly political junkies. This won’t sway undecideds unless political hay is made out of her absence that bleeds over into local network news on tv, in print and online. Given the timidity of the Tillis campaign thus far, it’s not a given that this will occur.

Is it getting that bad for Hagan now?

Two possibilities:

yes, she has internals that tell her she is going to lose, so she isn't going to sacrifice her personal situation to the race,

no, she knows the fix is in and she can't lose, so she isn't going to sacrifice her personal situation to the race.

The race is tightening up, but I’m still unsure how it will go down on 11-4. My beloved state has become so overrun with liberal Yankees that Hagen could easily stay our senator.

I’ll be voting for Tillis, but frankly it’s more of a vote against Hagen then for Tillis. The days of Jesse Helms, are, unfortunately over :(

I’m an anti-Hagan voter myself. Tillis is best described as inoffensive. Nothing to vote against, but nothing to vote for. Lukewarm.
