Venezuela seizes warehouses packed with medical goods, food

President Nicolas Maduro's government said on Thursday it had taken over warehouses around Venezuela crammed with medical goods and food that "bourgeois criminals" were hoarding for speculation and contraband.

The socialist government says businessmen and wealthy opponents are trying to sabotage the economy to bring Maduro down, while also seeking to make profits from hoarding, price-gouging and smuggling across the border to Colombia.

Critics say 15 years of failed policies of state intervention are to blame for the OPEC nation's widespread shortages, high inflation and apparently recessionary economy. They accuse nouveau riche officials and military officers of illegal business practices.

...

Critics say Venezuela's security forces have been at the heart of the trade for years, and contend contraband will not go away as long as state subsidies and exchange controls create price disparities offering tempting opportunities.

The warehouses probably belong to the government.

So the goods in the warehouses will be redistributed back to the people then, right? Because that's what leftism is all about, making sure everyone is equally happy. Right?

(Cue Disney animals singing and playing in the background).

The warehouses probably belong to the government.

They did in Chile.

When Pinochet took over he opened the warehouses and there was food to eat again. Expensive food but still, food.

Starving people into submission is a very old tactic.

Socialism is just great until you run out of other people’s stuff to take.

In 2008 or so, I went to Caracas and stayed at an Embassy Suites on Avenida Florida - not a bad place.

I walked up and down the street and took a pic of a phone booth with graffiti. I’ve been trying to get a translation for 6 years now.

Does anyone know the translation for:

“Chavez farzante communista”

I know what it probably means but does someone know for sure what it means?

Also on the phone booth was:

“Chavez communista. Cuba No”

It was an interesting visit. The airport is a looooong way from town and the airport is like a prison camp.

Look at the American revolution and look at this this. At what point will the people have the courage to rebel?

Socialism, communism, fascism, or whatever you want to call it, has been an incredibly successful philosophy insofar as allowing criminals to take over entire nations with a few empty promises aimed at the right people, then quickly consolidating power into a police state at the earliest chance to ensure its continued, unchallenged power in perpetuity. That is its formula, and actual purpose.

“Socialism is just great until you run out of other people’s stuff to take.”

Indeed. They’ll be able to steal the stuff from those warehouses one time, but then after that, they’ll remain empty forever.

Why talk about Venezuela; baseless and groundless government seizures are going on right here in the US.

Starving people is a dangerous tactic; the French and Russian revolutions were born of starvation, and those that would rule were often executed. Starvation led in no small part to the collapse of Imperial Germany; that made Hitler’s rise to power quite easy.

I believe our food stamp program, which has led to a “poor” population riddled with obesity and diabetes, is to prevent the desperation of men trying to feed starving families.

A friend married a girl from Venezuela; they visited in the past, but won’t be going any time soon. At this point the focus is getting her family out...
