TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) - Two teens from Taunton are facing 10-day suspensions over some pictures they took before Homecoming.

The pictures in question show the two dressed in their Homecoming outfits holding Airsoft guns.

“It's not like it happened at school, we had the guns [at home] and that's where the pictures were taken and they said it didn't matter,” Jaime Pereira said. "I guess the school took that as a threat but we didn't mean it in a threatening way."

School officials say the pictures, which were captioned “Homecoming 2014,” created a scare.

“What it's about is a coupled students engaging in an activity that created a total destruction of the school day,” Superintendent Richard W. Gross said. "They're juniors in High School, and it's proactive and they should know better and it scared students."

Jamie and her boyfriend Tito Velez say they haven't received their discipline letters in the mail yet, so they're still waiting to see if it's just a suspension or something else.

And did you know that just one white paint balloon splattered off a deputy sheriff’s car is enough to deny the Valedictorian’s speech and presence at the high school commencement? Just one measly paint balloon.

What is this world coming to? And that was in the early ‘60s!

They both have good trigger finger discipline.

They need to take the school to court if this goes forward.

Its not stupidity, its actually a very effective tactic.

Train the younger generation that the very thought of firearms is dangerous. Instill in them that any thought of a firearm is dangerous and a severe offense against the collective.

You’ll eliminate private ownership in a generation.

If this was in a real state (like Wyoming) and not the People’s Democratic Republic of Massachusetts.

It would be real firearms and no one would be bitching.

Stupid Libs.

You mean YOU decided to escalate this, completely outside of any harm or threat, Superintendent, and now you refuse to take responsibility for YOUR actions.

Laws need to be changed so students can sue teachers and school administrators for slander and harassment and abuse of authority. These SADISTIC BASTARDS need to fear the law. Once these COWARDS have to actually answer for what they do, they'll crawl back into their holes and you'll never hear from them again.

Scared people should not get to make the rules or enforce them.

We give government too much power, and they relish it.

There was not threat. They just posted a picture on their facebook page.

The school has no right to suspend them for free speech.

This is a clear violation of their first amendment rights.

This needs to be investigated. It appears that Gross has shown that he does not have the judgement to be a superintendent. He appears to be saying that a political agenda is more important to him than the constitution.
