MILFORD >> Mohammad A. Chaudhry, 52, Tuesday admitted throwing boiling hot oil on a woman as she slept last year in West Haven, leaving her looking “‘as though her skin was melting off,’” her son told authorities, Assistant State’s Attorney Amy L. Bepko said.
The victim required four skin grafts and 29 days in the hospital. She suffered third-degree burns over 15 percent of her upper body, Bepko told Judge Frank Iannotti.
Chaudhry, of West Haven, also pleaded guilty to having a fellow prison inmate write a letter to one of his children, in violation of a court order. The letter was intercepted by authorities and never mailed.
For first-degree assault and his attempt to violate the protective order, Chaudhry faces 10 to 15 years in prison at sentencing Jan. 26.
The victim, then 41, is listed in court documents as a former spouse.
Mohammad Chaudhry, a native of Pakistan, appeared in Superior Court with an Urdu interpreter and his attorney, Matthew J. Gaidos of Plainville.
Bepko laid out the events of 4:50 a.m. Dec. 18, 2013, at a Canton Street apartment.
Chaudhry told police he woke up about 3 a.m. and put a few cups of oil on the stove. He pulled it off “once it came to a boil,” Bepko said.
Chaudhry entered the room where the woman was sleeping, and asked his son to leave. Chaudhry got the oil from the kitchen, returned to the bedroom and poured the boiling liquid on the woman.
Her son said “he had never seen anything so horrible,” Bepko said.
Chaudhry fled the apartment, but was nabbed by West Haven police.
He asked officers several times whether the victim’s face was disfigured, Bepko said.
At the scene, police seized several containers of oil; and a silver cooking pot, which had melted a plastic bag on which it was placed. The fabric on the woman’s mattress had melted, Bepko said.
Chaudhry is being held at Northern Correctional Center, Somers.

The mistake in the headline is the word “man”.
What's the brain/islam percentage that makes someone too impaired for society?
We should also have laws about LWI/LUI with some rehab time away from society if found living under the influence.
These should be categorized by degree based on the damage done and deaths caused while LUI, with especially harsh sentences for multiple offenders.
